Description
There is always a crackle of tension in the air on the first day of rehearsal. The coming together of actors with one goal in mind: to create the first ever studio cast recording of Somethings Afoot a musical whodunnit I had co written with Rob Gerlach & David Vos some fifty years ago. While the show had played Broadway and the West End in the 1970s and was a staple of stock and regional theaters around the world it had never been recorded.
Some of the older cast members who gathered for the first table read had a vague knowledge of the show but most were not even born when Afoot originated.
We were all seated in the comfy living room of John Yap the producer of the recording. Craig Barna the musical director was at the piano and at the ready to teach the cast the songs. As I gazed around the room at the actors, I silently giggled. John had cast actors for the CD who could easily don a costume and step into the role in any West End theater (all the characters are British stereotypes one would find in any Agatha Christie mystery). It gave me such joy to watch the cast dive into their roles with gusto and totally make the show their own.
You will hear that on this recording. Enjoy !
