Between 1962 and 1966, The Tornados (in many guises) were mainstays of Joe Meek’s production line studio at 304 Holloway Road. From the global smash hit ‘Telstar’ through to later period soulful vocal tracks, the band’s remarkable musicianship and Meek’s inspired production techniques produced track after track of excellent and innovative 60s pop, resulting in a number of hits and near misses around the world.

Expertly curated, ‘Love And Fury’ showcases the very best of the Tornados’ material found in Joe Meek’s mythical Tea Chest Tapes archive. From familiar hits (often heard at their original speed prior to Meek’s speeding up process) and unfamiliar rarities and curios, spread across 131 tracks presented in previously unheard pristine sonic clarity worthy of the Meek name, this is not only a treasure trove for fans of The Tornados and Joe Meek, but also for students of British recording history and the 1960s’ pop scene (let’s not forget Meek and The Tornados hit #1 in the USA long before The Beatles). A plethora of demos, backing tracks and alternate versions also shed light on the working methods at 304 Holloway Road, and give an insight into the production line pop scene process unavailable anywhere ese.

Restored and mastered by Meek expert Alan Wilson, and accompanied by sleevenotes from The Joe Meek Society’s Craig Newton and previously unseen imagery, this latest addition to the ongoing Tea Chest Tapes series continues where our previous Heinz and Glenda Collins box sets left off, exploring the unique world of Joe Meek’s Holloway Road studio hit machine.
