With their focus on the darker side of life, the God fearing Louvin Brothers had already released the phenomenal 'Tragic Songs Of Life' in 1956 and followed it with equally magnificent 'Satan Is Real' in 59. With a Baptist upbringing, their, at times, harrowing sermonising, close harmonies and a customised bluegrass swagger set them up as one of the heavyweight country acts of the day and, as the decade ended, they recorded this often overlooked masterpiece - 'My Baby's Gone'. A heady and thought provoking journey through love, loss, break up and reconciliation, a 12-song cycle that predated the idea of the concept album by some years.
