When Deniece Williams’ single, FREE, hit number
one on the UK singles chart in early 1977, her “magic potion for love”
captivated audiences of all ages and backgrounds, and then set a new
standard of sophistication in the seventies soul music that was played
on British commercial radio playlists. Her debut album, THIS IS NIECY,
soon followed FREE into the charts, enjoying a 12 week stay on the UK
album chart where it peaked at #26. FREE also achieved R&B #2 and
Pop #25 chart positions in the States. It has since been sampled by
Roxanne Shante, Lords of the Underground and Lil’ Kim as well as being
covered by a number of artists including Will Downing, Corrine Bailey
Rae and Seal, who featured the song on both his SOUL (2008) and HITS
(2009) albums.THAT’S WHAT FRIENDS ARE FOR and CAUSE YOU LOVE ME, BABY
were follow up R&B hit singles with the former also returning
Deniece to the UK top ten where it peaked at #8. BBR are proud to
introduce the first ever expanded remaster of THIS IS NIECY to be
released in the UK, celebrating the classic album’s 35th anniversary!

“Big
Break release the fifth album re-release on one of the powerhouse voices of the
1970’s with this brilliant original 1976 album that features her biggest
commercial successes, Free and That’s What Friends Are For. ‘This Is Niecy’ is
a showcase for the multi octave vocal chords of one of my favourite female
vocalists.”
