Canterbury Records Hollywood home of Gary Zekley’s YELLOW BALLOON recorded a handful of other excellent but mysterious artists including Don Grady, Lisa Miller, and THE NEW WAVE! (Note: This is not a New Wave sounding record!)
Arranged by the legendary GENE PAGE (Phil Spector/Barry White/Buffalo Springfield), THE NEW WAVE fused the folkpop sounds of Simon & Garfunkel and Chad & Jeremy with contributions from LA studio wizards, including Carol Kaye and Van Dyke Parks concurrent to his work on The Beach Boys SMiLE.
Vibes, oboes, harpsichords, swirling strings, breezy vocals, and gently psychedelic affectations abound on this incredibly rare artefact of 1967 Los Angeles. File under: The perfect rainy day record. This DELUXE EXPANDED EDITION features the
original stereo and mono mixes of their self-titled album, which has been out of print since its very limited 1967 release. The 16-page, full-colour booklet includes rare, unpublished photos and extensive liner notes featuring the participation of original band members.
