In 1980 the two bad boys of Country Music released
“Double Trouble” an album comprising mainly rock and roll classics – no-one was
going to have more fun in the studio than George and Johnny. The album produced four hit singles,
‘Maybellene’, ‘You Can Have Her’, ‘When You’re Ugly Like Us’ and the Arthur
Alexander classic ‘You Better Move On’.
“A Taste Of Yesterday’s Wine” released in 1982 was
Merle Haggard and George Jones’ first album together reaching No. 4 in the
Billboard Country Album Charts. Two
singles charted from the collection ‘Yesterday’s Wine’ reaching No. 1 and ‘C.C.
Waterback’ getting to No. 10.
Two songs were written as tributes to the singers,
‘Silver Eagle’ for Merle and ‘No Show Jones’ for George.
Merle’s then wife Leona Williams is featured on
backing vocals.
Both albums produced by Billy Sherrill.
