Released on 23rd of January. The founding member of THE POINTER SISTERS, BONNIE POINTER began her performing career in San Francisco nightclubs in 1969. Soon joined by youngest sister June then by elder sisters Ruth and Anita, The Pointer Sisters released a string of hits on Blue Thumb, trailblazing from genre to genre, including funk and jazz, and won their first Grammy award for the country song FAIRYTALE, written by Anita and Bonnie, which would be recorded by ELVIS PRESLEY two years before his death.
In 1976, Bonnie Pointer left the group and soon after signed with Motown. Produced by (her later husband) Jeffrey Bowen, her first Motown album was a critical and commercial success. First single FREE MY FROM MY FREEDOM reached the R&B top 10 in 1978 and was distinctive for being a disco-era funk record with a surprising banjo solo. The album also featured the classic Motown covers WHEN I’M GONE (Brenda Holloway) and HEAVEN MUST HAVE SENT YOU (The Elgins). The latter was soon rerecorded in a Disco style, becoming a top 20 Pop and top 10 Disco hit and a dance classic. Both versions are included in this reissue
