In 2014 The Everly Brothers’ legacy was saluted at the Americana Music Assn. show , held at The Troubador, Los Angeles. The artists in the show including Bonnie Raitt, Ry Cooder, Rodney Crowell, T Bone Burnett, Joe Henry, Asher, Rhiannon Giddens, Jim Lauderdale, Dawes, the Milk Carton Kids, used The Everly Brothers music as its musical anchor. With the current widespread rise in popularity of Americana music as a genre, now seems a good time to reappraise and re-establish one of the first true Country Rock albums - the 1968 Everly Brothers album ROOTS. This box set presents the build-up story to this landmark album.
RPM Records is pleased to present the most detailed overview of the hitmaking career of Mitch Ryder & The Detroit Wheels. This is the first CD set to feature all of the albums he recorded for Bob Crewe’s Dynovoice and New Voice labels between 1966 and 1969 on three packed CDs
Often remembered for their foot stomping classic 60s hit ‘Have I The Right’ and the presence of Honey Lantree as their drummer. There was more, and this is a long overdue complete collection of one of producer Joe Meek’s most successful artists.
The best of Ronnie’s 14 solo singles and three albums for SPIN, from beat-pop to social statement, are collected here on THIS IS RONNIE BURNS. Crispian St. Peters was a folk/pop singer-songwriter who enjoyed significant success in the mid-60s, his career fuelled by some infamous boasts about his musical talents (his claim that he was better than Elvis and The Beatles caused an outrage at the time).
All the singles and Wood’s one LP are here, mastered from the original tapes, on Disc One. Also included are previously unreleased tracks - the stereo mixes from the only surviving multi track tape in the JOY archive, and ‘Who’s The Fool Now’ from the 1965 My Special Angel recording session, plus the MGM singles, on Disc Two.
Housed in a plush-looking Digipak, all of Twinkle's Decca sides are included (with two stereo mixes, belatedly issued in the 1970s, making their CD debut). Likewise, this beautifully presented 2-CD set boasts everything which followed on subsequent labels.
60 tracks of the finest slices of JSG in its various guises, as established by collectors around the world over the past decade. Including tracks from the USA, New Zealand, Netherlands, Sweden, Iceland, Australia as well as homegrown UK. Some previously unreleased, many first time on CD.
“Singled Out” is the cream of the crop, the best singles sides most representing the Billy Bremner sound. The second focus is Bremner’s songwriting as all but three of the songs on this compilation are written or co-written by Bremner.
“Riding Free” receives a first time reissue since original release on Chapter One in 1973, with 13 bonus tracks. Roger James’ sole LP, produced by Mark Wirtz, is a beguiling mix of 70’s soft country-rock combined with the Wirtz flair for the epic.
RPM is proud to present both Paper Bubble LPs as backed by The Strawbs, plus the duo’s late 70’s single, and to round off Disc 2, following PVSF, their final work together the 1981 album I’m Coming Home.
SHOOK, SHIMMY & SHAKE is housed in a handsome clamshell box. Inside are miniatures of all three albums (featuring their original artwork), alongside a hefty booklet featuring extensive sleeve-notes in which Mick Weaver is heavily quoted, in which he finally tells the story of the mysterious Wynder K. Frog!
Included in this collection are 80 recordings from over 50 of New Zealand’s well known - and lesser known acts spanning 1965-1969. 19 tracks are on CD for the first time; six tracks are previously unreleased. As well as the local HMV, RCA and Philips labels we have the cream of NZ’s own labels as sources including Action, Impact, Zodiac, Allied International and La Gloria.
For any 60’s collector this is a fascinating snapshot of a mirrored scene, and for those outside of Australasia probably a first chance to own a copy of many of the recordings. Even for those inside that territory well over half the recordings on the box have not been available for decades.
COMING ON STRONG is the first UK CD retrospective of this highly-rated band. Originally billed as Johnny Vallons & The Deejays, they were invited to Sweden in 1963 by the manager of The Spotnicks: they came for a two month tour and remained for five years!
All of the group’s key tracks from 1965-1967 are included on this 28-track compilation, including highlights from the albums The “Deejays” (1966) and “Haze” (1967).
