RE-PRESS: CD ORIGINALLY RELEASED IN 2014
Crispian St. Peters was a folk/pop singer-songwriter who enjoyed significant success in the mid-60s, his career fuelled by some infamous boasts about his musical talents (his claim that he was better than Elvis and The Beatles caused an outrage at the time).
Housed in a clamshell box that boasts replica album sleeves, some very rare photos and a new essay on the man, the 6-CD set Unpentangled anthologises that essential but often overlooked body of early work.
All three albums are presented in miniature facsimile sleeves, while the set is housed in a clamshell box that contains a 32-page booklet featuring rare photos, interview quotes and a lengthy essay on Steeleye’s early days.
Across three CDs and 79 tracks, Gathered From Coincidence examines every aspect of the British mid-Sixties folk-pop boom, incorporating Dylan-inspired singer/songwriters with a commercial pop sensibility, the more introverted beat groups, Marianne Faithfull-inspired female chanteuses and R&B hoodlums in newly-pensive mode, all bound together by the 6 or 12-string thrum or Rickenbacker clang.
RPM is proud to present both Paper Bubble LPs as backed by The Strawbs, plus the duo’s late 70’s single, and to round off Disc 2, following PVSF, their final work together the 1981 album I’m Coming Home.
Between 1968 and 1974, amateur songwriters, musicians and home taping enthusiasts Peter Howell and John Ferdinando – aka H & F Recordings – retreated to their makeshift home studio in East Sussex to mastermind a series of privately-issued albums that were attributed to semi-fictitious groups such as Ithaca and Agincourt.
A Game For All Who Know: The H & F Recordings Box gathers together all four albums and adds an unreleased-at-the-time fifth, the Friends LP Fragile, which was abandoned at acetate stage after Howell accepted an invitation in 1974 to join the BBC Radiophonic Workshop on a full-time basis.
Taken from the original master tapes, and with a lavish booklet that features a new 7000-word essay on their activities, fresh interview quotes and previously unpublished photos, A Game For All Who Know constitutes the final, definitive word on a fascinating and hugely collectable body of work.
RE-PRESS: BOXSET ORIGINALLY RELEASED IN 2017 .
For the first time ever, these PENTANGLE albums are available as a deluxe 7CD box set to coincide with the 50th anniversary of the band’s formation. Each record has been remastered from the best available sources, referencing original tapes and vinyl where relevant. Each album has been expanded with a wealth of bonus material, including choice selections from contemporaneous solo LPs by Bert Jansch and John Renbourn, out-takes and live tracks. Across the package, there are an impressive 22 recordings which are previously unreleased.
Transferred from the original master tapes by compiler Alec Palao and packaged with detailed notes and rare images, Sally Free And Easy by JON-MARK adds a fascinating and heretofore little-discussed chapter to the Brit-folk movement of the mid-1960s.
ONE WAY GLASS is a very different kind of RPM compilation. Instead of the usual cross-section of Sixties collectables, this unique 3-CD set takes a fresh look at British music from the late 60s through to the mid-70s, with an eye on overlooked dancefloor-friendly finds.
FLY ON STRANGEWINGS is now treated to a deluxe 3-CD edition which finally tells the full story of Marian Segal’s musical career. Compiled and annotated with Marian’s involvement, this new package offers a second disc of early recordings of Marian with fellow Jade member Dave Waite, while Disc Three brings the story more up-to-date with solo and Marian Segal Band recordings.
Esoteric Recordings are pleased to announce the release of a newly re-mastered edition of the classic self-titled album by vocalist and violinist Carolanne Pegg, originally released on the Transatlantic label in 1973.
Milk Of The Tree is the 3CD box set (60 tracks) focusing on the music made in the late '60s and early '70s in both Britain and North America by either female solo artists or acts with featured female vocalists. Along the way, we encounter San Franciscan psychedelia, LA folk rock, Swinging London pop-folk, electric folk, progressive folk and even folk club folk as well as (of course) a plethora of singer- songwriters (including various ladies of the Canyon) from the movement's golden age.
SPACED OUT is the first-ever compilation to tell the story of Mushroom Records from its roots in the psychedelic era and its evolution across the early 1970s. With a foreword and involvement from label boss Vic Keary, this double-CD set reveals how Mushroom epitomised the excitement and diversity of the progressive era.
