It’s just over 40 years since global music icon Dionne Warwick signed with Arista Records marking a defining fifteen-year chapter in the star-studded career of the Lifetime Achievement and multi-Grammy-winning songstress, celebrated here with this first-of-its-kind box set of her (159) recordings for the label. Included are (29) bonus tracks, with nine of the twelve albums as expanded editions of the original Arista LPs, with remastering by Nick Robbins. The deluxe 64-page booklet (with artwork by Roger Williams) includes detailed essays on each album by SoulMusic.com/SoulMusic Records’ founder David Nathan (who credits Dionne’s mid-60s hits as fuelling his passion for soul music), with quotes from Dionne, Clive Davis and producer Steve Buckingham.
A band slightly out of time, Girl formed in 1979, coming to prominence with their debut LP “Sheer Greed” in January 1980. Featuring singer Phil Lewis, guitarists Gerry Laffy and Phil Collen, and joined by Gerry's brother Simon on bass, they rocked hard enough to capitalise on the burgeoning New Wave Of British Heavy Metal movement that was sweeping across the UK, a scene led by Iron Maiden, Saxon and Def Leppard. Though it’s fair to say that with their pretty boy good looks and make-up, their glam leaning roots would make them a big influence on the “hair-metal” bands of the mid-1980s, but not necessarily with the then more prevalent denim & leather brigade of the NWOBHM crowd.

1982 was a decisive year for The Fall. Their critically acclaimed album “Hex Enduction Hour” was released in March on Kamera Records, closely followed by “Room To Live” in September. This six-disc boxset brings together those two classic albums alongside a host of John Peel sessions, Kamera singles, live performances and the group’s live album “In A Hole”, recorded during their tour of New Zealand and originally released on Flying Nun Records.
Fast Buck were a popular classic rock band who made just one album – a self-titled effort for Jet Records in 1976. Amazingly, despite selling 40,000 copies at the time, the LP has never been reissued on CD, until now, and includes the LP’s sole single ‘Sometime Man’! The band revolved around the talents of guitarist and songwriter Ed Hamilton, who kept the band going long after they had parted company with Jet and founded their own recording studio.
In some respects, Riot’s story is one of what might have been, and to some degree, a band not quite at the right place at the right time. What this 6 CD collection of live recordings and demos does offer is a unique and raw insight into this influential and cult hard rock and heavy metal band, as they cemented their reputation as a live draw across America in the 1980s.
The highly influential Poco are, along with the likes of the Flying Burrito Brothers, best known for being early proponents of what would soon become recognised as country rock. This 5CD set kicks off with their fourth album, “A Good Feelin’ to Know” and runs through to 1974's Cantamos with the final disc (five) featuring Poco Live in 1976.
