Original Studio Cast: Godspell, CD

The Musical Godspell has been a staple diet for both amateur and professional companies ever since its debut in 1971. Hit songs from the score such as Day By Day and Turn Back Old Man have been frequently recorded and indeed Cleo Laines version of Day By Day, performed on this recording by her daughter, Jacqueline Dankworth, went high into the UK charts. It is therefore surprising that there has been only one other recording of the score, complete or otherwise has been available on any format for the past ten years or so. This new Digital Dolby Surround Sound recording is the most complete version to date and includes the previously unrecorded "The Prologue". It also has the distinction of being conducted by the composer, Stephen Schwartz, who also composed the score to Walt Disneys latest blockbuster The Hunchback Of Notre Dame. Other compositions include the Broadway Tony Award winner Pippin and Bernsteins Mass.
