Khari Cabral Simmons: Clementine Sun, CD

A very appealing album fusing soul, bossa nova and jazz from Atlanta musician Khari Cabral Simmons, with help from Incognito’s Bluey, who mixed the set. India Arie is guest vocalist on a delightful treatment of Stevie Wonder’s “Never In Your Sun”.

Khari – formerly leader of Atlanta band Jiva, and responsible for an earlier Dome al-bum “Moon Bossa” with Julie Dexter – comes up with a stunning collection of uplifting, airplay-friendly tunes. Incognito add their horns to the hooky “How Can We Go Wrong?”, and newcomer Chantae Cann excels on “Get Back”, while one of Brazil’s rising stars Sabrina Malheiros contributes closing track “Major Bossa”. “The Dove” is co-written by Khari with Avery Sunshine producer/writer Dana Johnson.
