Description
- Carter The Unstoppable Sex Machine were a duo, threeo and eventually a sixxo formed by South London friends Jim Morrison (sic) and Les Carter (sic again) who made their name with a mix of social commentary, puns, loud guitars and electronic pop music. They had fourteen Top 40 singles in the UK and released seven studio albums, one of which reached Number 1 in the charts. During their ten year career, Carter USM - as they became known - played nearly 800 live gigs all over the world. Ten years of riots, strip searches, murder accusations, rugby-tackling children’s television presenters and almost meeting Gilbert O’Sullivan. This is their story. Some would say it’s a rollercoaster ride, but Jim Bob describes it as ‘more like a 1980s sporty hatchback’.
- Originally published by Cherry Red Books in 2004, ‘Goodnight Jim Bob – On The Road With Carter The Unstoppable Sex Machine’ has been long out of print until now. The sequel ‘Jim Bob from Carter’ was also published by Cherry Red Books in March 2019.
- As the singer of Carter The Unstoppable Sex Machine, Jim Bob had 14 top 40 singles and a number one album, selling over a million records, touring the world and headlining Glastonbury. After initially splitting in 1997, Carter USM reformed ten years later for a series of huge sold out shows until they called it a day again in 2014. Outside of Carter, Jim Bob has had a long and varied solo music career. He has released eight solo albums and written songs for Ian Dury and for the 2006 Barbican production of Mark Ravenhill’s Dick Whittington & His Cat, directed by Edward Hall and starring Trigger from Only Fools and Horses. In August 2010 Jim Bob made his Edinburgh Fringe debut in the Ward and White musical Gutted, A Revenger’s Musical.
