Description
The three albums that Glen Campbell made for the Atlantic American label between 1982 and 1985 are on this 2CD set together with a rarity – the bonus track ‘They Still Dance To Waltzes In England’. This track was specially recorded for British release to coincide with his appearance at the 1984 International Festival of Country Music held in Wembley.
Although he might have been originally known as a Country artist, it would be an injustice to pigeon-hole him as his music defied categorisation and attracted all manner of audiences. As he once remarked, “There are only two kinds of music – good and bad”.
Glen Travis Campbell had displayed musical ability from his earliest days. The seventh son of twelve children, he was born into a poor farming family on April, 22nd 1936, in Billstown near Delight, Arkansas. Like many other children he was picking cotton virtually as soon as he could walk.
Music was the family comfort for all the hard times and he started playing guitar when he was four years old learning from his Uncle Bob on a five dollar guitar that he’d given him. Within two years he was performing on local radio!
Glen’s guitar skills quickly took him to top echelon level and he became associated with the much-lauded Wrecking Crew (which also included Leon Russell, Barney Kessel and James Burton in its ranks).
He played guitar on recordings by artists such as Dean Martin, Frank Sinatra, Bobby Darin, The Beach Boys (he briefly replaced Brian Wilson on Bass and high vocals), the Monkees, The Mamas and The Papas and Elvis Presley.
Glen Campbell died on August 8th, 2017 after a long battle with Alzheimer’s and was laid to rest the next day in the Campbell Family Cemetery in Billstown, Arkansas.
First time on CD for this compilation.
