Hunter Herbert: The Rockin' Spa Masters, CD

Many soul music scholars consider Herbert Hunter to be one of the great voices from the shadows of 1960s soul music. Like his contemporaries Earl Gaines, Roscoe Shelton and Charles Walker, Herbert recorded prolifically but never had a crossover hit record. He also never recorded for one of thre classic soul labels like Stax, Atlantic or Motown and therefore never became a household name, even in soul music circles. Where Herbert has become known however, is within the Northern Soul community. There is a group of Music fans and record collectors in the North Of England who seek out very obscure American soul music records for dancing parties. Several of Herbert's 45s for the Spar and Poncello labels have become very popular with this set and go for big bucks on the used vinyl market.
