This Friday 13th July Doctor Bird will be releasing not one but two fantastic reissues!
Desmond Dekker: You Can Get It If You Really Want, Expanded Edition
First ever CD issue of one of Trojan Records’ best-selling albums.
Features three major UK hits: ‘You Can Get It If You Really Want’, ‘Pickney Gal’ and ‘Sing A Little Song’.
Desmond Dekker tribute act regularly performing live at significant venues around the UK through-out the year.
Soon after Desmond Dekker’s ‘You Can Get It If You Really Want’ had climbed to number 2 in UK’s pop chart in summer of 1970, Trojan released an album of the same title, which quickly became one of the company’s biggest ever selling long players. Yet despite its popularity, the LP has, until now, remained unavailable on CD.
At long last, the oversight has been addressed with this long overdue set, which is augmented by 11 bonus tracks comprising Dekker’s complete early 1970s output for Creole Records.
Including three major UK chart hits in ‘You Can Get It If You Really Want’, ‘Pickney Gal’ and ‘Sing A Little Song’ this is a must for all fans of the much-missed singer-songwriter and of classic reggae sounds.
The Maytals: Monkey Man / From The Roots, 2 On 1 Expanded Edition –
Toots & The Maytals playing live throughout Europe this summer.
Includes two tracks new to CD.
Comprises two of the best-selling reggae albums of all time.
Led by the dynamic Frederick ‘Toots’ Hibbert, the Maytals were at the vanguard of the reggae explosion of late 1969/early 1970, with their anthemic ‘Monkey Man’ among Trojan Records’ earliest UK chart successes.
Soon after their breakthrough single breached the UK pop charts in 1970, the iconic reggae record company issued a popular LP of the same title, featuring a dozen of the trio’s most popular recordings of the past 6 months.
The Maytals remained one of Jamaica’s leading acts over the years that immediately followed, with their popularity resulting in a recording deal with Island Records in 1973. There swiftly followed extensive tours of the UK and mainland Europe, prompting Trojan to gather a dozen or so of their earlier works for a belated follow-up to their Monkey Man LP, namely “From The Roots”.
Both albums feature on this essential boss reggae collection, which also includes three rare alternate versions of album tracks, notably ‘Monkey Man’ and ‘She’s My Scorcher’, both of which make their CD debut.
