TIME! GENTLEMEN! | 3CD Pub Rock Rhythm N Grooves 74-82 coming soon…

  • 72-track / 3 CD box set containing four hours of both groove-laden and downright rocking music from the (mostly London) Pub Rock scene’s heyday of the mid 70s through to the early 80s.
  • Including many hits (and should have beens!).
  • Also features a sizeable collection of tracks making their CD debut – with some not being heard at all since back in the day!
  • Every track expertly and lovingly remastered by renowned studio wizard Tim Turan. They’ve never sounded as good. Satisfaction guaranteed!
  • With an extravagant booklet containing a fully illustrated track-by-track annotation and overview by Simon Matthews, author of Before It Went Rotten: The Music That Rocked London’s Pubs.

In some respects, a lavish follow-up to Grapefruit’s highly successful 2019 ‘Surrender To The Rhythm’ set which highlighted Pub Rock’s pioneers. ‘Time! Gentlemen!’ features a selection of cuts from many of the usual suspects of the genre such as Brinsley Schwarz, Dr. Feelgood, Chilli Willi And The Red Hot Peppers and Kokomo, but excitingly, goes beyond the usual fare by including some of their lesser-known gems. Not only a virtual treasure trove of great 70s rock, the set also covers the scene’s ‘new’ talent, many of which managed to have big hit singles in the latter part of the 70s, such as Elvis Costello, Squeeze, Nick Lowe and The Stranglers – to name but a few!

In covering Pub Rock from the mid-70s onwards, other musical styles also start to exert their influence on the acts featured, so there’s also evidence of punk, new wave, the mod revival and even a little reggae in addition to huge helpings of straight-ahead classic rock, good old rock ‘n’ roll, rollicking RnB - and a dash of Brit soulfulness, of course.

The key to this collection lies in its sub-title, Rhythm ‘N’ Grooves; it is just packed chock- full of real good time music that might just, as old Rod once espoused, “make you dance, sing, or do anything” …or perhaps you simply do nothing and just lie back and enjoy it.
