DOCTOR BIRD | Lee Scratch Perry Presents Black Man’s Time Upsetters Singles coming in November
- Many tracks new to CD.
- Includes number of Jamaican hits.
- Features some of reggae music’s greatest performers.
As the 1970s progressed the productions of Lee ‘Scratch’ Perry increasingly reflected both his unique and innovative approach to music-making and strong personal beliefs.
This is evident is his output throughout the course of 1972, during which time his role in the development in what would soon become known as dub was progressively demonstrated, while songs that dealt with political, social and cultural matters increasingly dominated his material.
This, the latest release in a series of Doctor Bird releases chronologically showcasing Perry’s Jamaican productions from his earliest days onwards as a record producer, features some of his finest pre-Black Ark material, performed by such reggae luminaries as Augustus Pablo, Junior Byles, The Heptones, Dennis Alcapone and Max Romeo. And with various tracks new to CD, this is a collection of early Upsetter masterpieces from a truly fascinating period in the musical development of arguably Jamaica’s greatest ever record producer.
