Felt

Felt are one of the great "what-ifs" of 1980s indie. Inspired by Television and Lou Reed, they spent the decade making spare, elegant pop - articulate lyrics paired with radio-friendly melodies. Frontman Lawrence, bookish and fiercely intellectual, championed a "new puritan" creed: no drink, no cigarettes, no drugs. They had the makings of a band as big as The Smiths, but mainstream success never quite arrived.

Across the decade they released ten albums and ten singles on Cherry Red and Creation, a catalogue Lawrence has since overseen through fresh remasters and reissues.
