Cheryl Lynn: Expanded Edition - Cheryl Lynn

Cheryl Lynn: Expanded Edition
•    From singing in church in Los Angeles to appearing on the popular ‘70s U.S. TV talent programme, ‘The Gong Show,’ Cheryl Lynn’s vocal delivery, style and skills have been evident and when she hit the international music scene in 1978, it was no surprise that she found favour with audiences the world over.

•    The summer of that year, her co-penned ‘Got To Be Real,’ acknowledged now as a timeless classic that has been used in countless movies, television ad campaigns, sampled and covered, could be heard literally across the globe from London to New York, Paris to Tokyo, giving the soulful singer an anthem that has continued to bring dancers to their feet everywhere.  The single reached No. 1 on the U.S. R&B charts and No. 23 on the Hot 100.

•    Cheryl’s self-titled debut album also included another dance anthem, ‘Star Love’ as well as a cover of ‘Come In From The Rain’ (a 1977 hit for Captain & Tennille) and four more songs that Cheryl wrote or co-wrote.  The album was certified gold, reaching No. 5 on the U.S. R&B and No. 23 on Top 200 Albums’ charts.

•    Originally reissued in the US in 2010, the CD has been generally unavailable for the last few years;  this new remastered version on SoulMusic Records includes two tracks not originally included – the much-loved 12” single mix and 7” single edits of ‘Star Love’ along with the single version of ‘Got To Be Real’ and 12” single of ‘You Saved My Day.’  Edited from the original essay by renowned U.S. writer A. Scott Galloway, the notes include quotes from Cheryl, co-producer David Paich (of Toto fame) and famed drummer James Gadson.

N.B. This album is released August 18 and will not be dispatched before this date.

Night Time Is Lonely Time

Released on 27/09/10. Van McCoy originated an awful lot of music in his brief 39 years as a writer, producer, arranger and occasional singer. He signed on as a recording artist after several years as a writer for Columbia’s wholly owned music publishing company April-Blackwood. It is quite likely that he was signed as a performer in an attempt to fill the gap left by one of the Columbia labels biggest artists, Johnny Mathis, who had recently departed to join the Mercury label. Van performs such Mathis styled interpretations of standards such as How High The Moon , Every Time We Say Goodbye , I Can Dream Can t I and I Get Along Without You Very Well as well as a few of his own compositions. The album was produced by Columbia’s long time executive Mitch Miller. Here is the first opportunity in many years to enjoy his one solo vocal album.
