INDESTRUCTIBLE - The Four Tops

INDESTRUCTIBLE

In 1988, The Four Tops left Motown (the company for whom they recorded enduring classics such as ‘Reach Out I’ll Be There’ and ‘I Can’t Help Myself’)  after a third stint to make one album,  for Arista Records

With Arista founder Clive Davis helming the project as executive producer, the original members of the legendary quartet (Duke Fakir, Lawrence Payton, Levi Stubbs and Obie Benson) worked with several producers –Narada Michael Walden (fresh from success with Arista artists Whitney Houston and Aretha Franklin); Steve Barri (who had produced the group at ABC/Dunhill Records) and Bobby Sandstrom; their former Motown colleague Lamont Dozier working with superstar Phil Collins; pop and rock star Huey Lewis; the team of Jerry Knight & Aaron Zigman (who had worked with The Jets and The Pointer Sisters among others); and singer/songwriter Albert Hammond.

The album enjoyed its’ greatest success in Europe: in the UK, "Loco In Acapulco” (co-written by Phil Collins for the film, "Buster” in which he starred in the lead role) reached the Top 10;  while the infectious title track  – with a vocal cameo from Motown pal Smokey Robinson - also became a Top 30 UK hit and Top 100 US pop and Top 40 R&B charted single. Other standouts include a US-charted duet with fellow Detroit friend Aretha Franklin on ‘If There  A Love There Was’ (also featuring Arista’s Kenny G on sax) and ‘The Sun Ain’t Gonna Shine’ (with a sax solo from Clarence Clemons).

This SoulMusic Records’ expanded edition reissue includes six bonus tracks including the UK single of ‘Loco In Acapulco’ and three remixes of the track, an extended version of ‘Indestructible’ and a non-album ‘B’ side ‘The Four Of Us,’ written by group member Lawrence Payton as well as liner notes by renowned UK writer Charles Waring including quotes from producer Narada Michael Walden.

Love In The Afternoon
Recently hailed by Record Collector magazine as the finest vocalist you've never heard, Claire Hamill has enjoyed a long and varied career as one of Britain's finest female singer songwriters. Signing to Island Records in 1971 at the age of 17, she made a series of wonderful albums in the 1970's. The singer Eva Cassidy covered Claire's 'You Take My Breath Away' and Claire's influence extends to artists such as Kate Bush. In the 1980's Claire's music embraced the ambient movement and following work with artists such as Jon & Vangelis, Claire recorded the wonderful album Voices, a record featuring solely vocal sounds that topped the UK New Age Chart and was the soundtrack to BBC TVs Domesday series. She followed this in 1988 with the equally excellent song based Love In The Afternoon, featuring the classic Trees . Our Price: £10.95

Live At The Rainbow 1977 CD/DVD
1977 was a massive year for Eddie And The Hot Rods.
The popularity of the Essex Punk Rockers had been building on the live circuit for a few years – but ’77 was the year they really broke through.
It was the year of their biggest hit single, ‘Do Anything You Wanna Do’ – which reached number nine in the UK chart in August, the year they toured the US with Talking Heads and The Ramones, and the year they released the very popular "Life On The Line Album.”
In the midst of all this activity – Eddie And The Hot Rods played what many still consider to be their finest ever live show – at London’s Rainbow Theatre.
This 2 disc release captures that show in all its glory – both on CD and DVD.
Amongst the tracks featured are the UK hit single ‘Teenage Depression’, further singles ‘Writing On The Wall’ and ‘Wooly Bully’, and covers of classic songs such as ’96 Tears’ (originally recorded by Question Mark & the Mysterians), ‘The Kids Are Alright’ (originally recorded by The Who) and ‘Gloria’ (originally recorded by Them).
A raucous crowd and a great performance make this a must have for any Hot Rods fan.

· The quintet (which had experienced a number of personnel changes over the preceding years) had established themselves in the premier league of black male vocal groups thanks to early ‘70s hits such as the classics, ‘Whatcha See Is Whatcha Get’ and ‘In The Rain’ for Volt Records.
· Working with producer Don Davis, songwriter Tony Hester and key musician/songwriter Michael Henderson – the team who had been responsible for their breakthrough Volt hits – among others, The Dramatics (L.J. Reynolds, Willie Ford, Ron Banks, Larry "Squirrell” Demps and Lenny Mayes) scored a US Top 10 R&B charted album with DRAMA V, thanks to standout tracks such as ‘Just Shopping (Not Buying Anything),’ ‘Dramatic Theme/Treat Me Like A Man’ (both penned by Henderson) and ‘I Was The Life Of The Party.’
· Making its worldwide CD debut, this SoulMusic Records’ reissue includes one bonus track, the Top 10 US R&B single version of ‘You’re Fooling You’ along with liner notes by renowned US writer Quentin Harrison with 2013 quotes from Michael Henderson.

Trouble
We have a small number of signed albums by Ken Hensley! Order now while stocks last!

·       A legendary figure in rock, Ken Hensley has a long and illustrious career, having recorded with and performed with acts as diverse as British 60s psyche rockers The Gods to southern American rockers Blackfoot… but Ken is probably best known for the albums he made in the 1970s as a musician and songwriter with British heavy rock institution, Uriah Heep; from 1970’s "Very ’Eavy Very ’Umble” until 1980’s "Conquest”.
·       He has also guested with bands as diverse as Cinderella, WASP, and Therion! And a special mention to Toe Fat that Ken formed with Cliff Bennett.
·       In 2006 he formed Live Fire, providing his trademark keyboards, guitar and vocals, alongside Norwegian Ken Ingwersen on guitar, initially just to perform Ken’s songs live.
·       In 2009, Tom Arne Fossheim joined as drummer, then in 2011 Ken Hensley & Live Fire released their first studio album "Faster”, followed by the self-explanatory "Live!!” earlier this year.
·       Produced by Ken, "Trouble” is not only his third record fronting the band Live Fire, but now one of over 50 albums Ken Hensley has recorded or featured on!
·       Kicking off with ‘Ready To Die’, and with a line-up now completed by Roberto Tiranti on bass, "Trouble” will be promoted across Europe with concerts as far apart as Germany, Finland, Spain and the Ukraine.
