Born To Love - Peabo Bryson & Roberta Flack

Born To Love
When Peabo Bryson and Roberta Flack teamed up in 1983 to record the Capitol album BORN TO LOVE, the pair had already experienced success as a duo thanks to the 1980 LP, Live & More (a Top 10 R&B best-selling album). By the time they headed into the studio to cut BORN TO LOVE, Bryson was six years into his recording career and had established himself as one of the premier black male vocalists of the day; Flack was already considered an internationally-renowned artist thanks to classic recordings such as ‘The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face’ and ‘Killing Me Softly With His Song.’
With tracks produced by songwriters Michael Masser, Bob Crewe and Bryson himself, BORN TO LOVE achieved gold status in the US as well as becoming both artists’ highest-charting international success. The impact of the now-classic single, ‘Tonight, I Celebrate My Love’ (co-written by Masser, then known for songs such as Diana Ross’ ‘Touch Me In The Morning’ and Natalie Cole’s ‘Someone That I Used To Love’ and Gerry Goffin) was global, reaching No. 2 on the UK charts, No. 10 in Australia, No. 4 in Canada and No. 16 in the US).
The album also included two other charted singles, ‘Maybe’ and ‘You’re Looking Like Love To Me’ while ‘Heaven Above Me’ got radio and club play in the UK.
This 2013 expanded edition of BORN TO LOVE includes three bonus tracks along with liner notes by Billboard Senior Editor, Gail Mitchell with new quotes from Roberta Flack.

I’m Gonna Be Strong / Looking Thru The Eyes Of Love
Comprises two original albums, including four UK Top 10 hits: ‘I’m Gonna Be Strong’, ‘I Must Be Seeing Things’, ‘Looking Thru The Eyes Of Love’, ‘Just One Smile’ plus the LP version of ‘That Girl Belongs To Yesterday’ and bonus tracks.
Booklet features the original Musicor album sleeves and updated liner notes by Pitney authority Roger Dopson.
Superior sound quality throughout.
GENE PITNEY was one of the most prolific and successful international artists of the 1960s, releasing some twenty-five albums (plus a further dozen or so "Greatest Hits” sets) and around thirty-five singles.
In the 1990s, Sequel Records paired up Gene’s original LPs as 2-on-1s, plus bonus tracks and all mastered from first-generation tapes. Pitney himself was delighted with the results. Sadly Gene died in 2006 whilst touring the UK, by which time these 2-on-1s had long been deleted. However, thanks to RPM, these well-regarded compilations are once again available.
Released in November 1964, Gene’s fifth album It Hurts To Be In Love was retitled for the British market as I’m Gonna Be Strong after the single which was then a hit and would peak at No.2 The UK LP also included ‘I’m Gonna Find Myself A Girl’ which had been withdrawn as a single in the US and likewise omitted from It Hurts...
Similarly, when I Must Be Seeing Things was released in July 1965, its UK counterpart was titled after Gene’s latest Top 5 hit ‘Looking Thru The Eyes Of Love’. Again, there were track variations: ‘If I Never Get To Love You’ replaced ‘There’s No Living Without Your Loving’ on the UK pressing, and a UK EP included an extra in ‘The Rising Tide Of Love’. These two recordings, together with ‘Last Chance To Turn Around’ (US No.13), are included here.
