Keep You Satisfied / Forbidden Lover 2CD - Nancy Wilson

Keep You Satisfied / Forbidden Lover 2CD
Song stylist Nancy Wilson enjoyed a twenty-year tenure with Capitol Records (1959-79) which established her as a consistent fixture on the music scene, with over thirty albums and pop/R&B hits including ‘How Glad I Am,’ ‘Guess Who I Saw Today’ and 'You’re As Right As Rain’ (from the two-on-one 2010 SoulMusic Records’ reissue of ALL IN LOVE IS FAIR and COME GET TO THIS, SMCR-25010).
Between 1982-84, Nancy recorded a series of albums in Japan working with producer Kiyoshi Itoh and arranger Masahiko Satoh; after "The Two Of Us,” a successful album for Columbia Records in the U.S. with Ramsey Lewis, Nancy signed with the label.
For 1985’s KEEP YOU SATISFIED, Nancy reunited with Itoh and Satoh for sessions in Japan; the result was a Top 20 Jazz Album that included her take on the George Michael hit of the day, the now-classic ‘Careless Whisper’ and a striking cover of Marvin Gaye’s ‘Just To Keep You Satisfied.’
Working with the same producer and arranger, the follow-up album, 1986’s FORBIDDEN LOVER was recorded in Los Angeles; the title track - a soulful duet with singer Carl Anderson - received airplay at R&B stations in the U.S., giving Nancy her first best-selling album (#8 on Billboard’s Jazz charts). Other key cuts include a second duet with Anderson (‘Too Good To Be True’) and a superlative version of Leon Russell’s ‘A Song For You.’

Press: "Keep You Satisfied is a delight...Forbidden Lover is another glittering collection." - Alan Jones, Music Week, November 2012

The Sound Of Nancy Wilson / Nancy
By the time now-legendary song stylist Nancy Wilson recorded tracks for what would be the 1968 LP, THE SOUND OF NANCY WILSON, the Ohio-born songstress had already established herself as the best-selling artist at Capitol Records, second only to The Beatles. Her 20th album for the label found Nancy applying her distinctive brand of soulful vocalizing fused with a touch of pop and jazz to ten songs that were a perfect fit for her well-crafted artistry. Highlights included the U.S. Top 30 R&B and Top 60 pop-charted single, ‘Peace Of Mind,’ the reflective ‘Black Is Beautiful’ (particularly appropriate for the civil rights challenges of the era) and a stellar reading of the Dinah Washington classic, ‘This Bitter Earth.’
The 1969 release, NANCY found the singer in a variety of musical settings – from R&B gutsiness (‘I’m Your Special Fool,’ penned by noted songwriter Jimmy Radcliffe) to dramatic pop splendour (on Jacques Brel’s ‘If We Only Have Love’) with a nod to the burgeoning soul music market via ‘You’d Better Go,’ a US Top 50 R&B-charted single, co-written by Teddy Randazzo.
As with many of her previous Capitol albums, longtime producer David Cavanaugh masterminded the sessions with superb arrangements by Jimmy Jones. THE SOUND OF NANCY WILSON and NANCY are making their worldwide CD with this SoulMusic Records release, part of the label’s on-going reissues of music from Nancy’s Capitol catalogue and include notes by renowned U.S. writer Gary D. Jackson.

Goddess Of Love
The second reissue from the Arista catalogue of much-loved and much-missed songstress Phyllis Hyman (following the April 2013 release of SOMEWHERE IN MY LIFETIME, SMCR-5092), GODDESS OF LOVE marked a commercial triumph for the singer giving her a US Top 20 R&B best-selling album as well as a US Top 30 R&B hit (and dance music charted single) with ‘Riding The Tiger.’
Originally the album – a follow-up to the 1981 album Can’t We Fall In Love Again – was due to be produced in its entirety by Philly hitmaker Thom Bell; Arista head Clive Davis asked Narada Michael Walden (already experiencing success with Arista artist Angela Bofill among others) to add three songs with Phyllis to complete the project which included the uptempo, atmospheric title track and the standout smooth ballad ‘Let Somebody Love You’ (co-written by Preston Glass).
Thom Bell’s production work on the six songs also provided Phyllis with a wonderful setting for her distinctive vocal style, a fusion of pop, soul and jazz. Highlights included brilliantly-orchestrated ‘Your Move, My Heart,’ the poignant ‘Falling Star,’ a slice of classic Philly soul via ‘We Should Be Lovers’ and the beautiful ‘Just Twenty Five Miles To Anywhere.’
Originally reissued in 2010 in the U.S. on CD, this new expanded edition includes the three bonus tracks, versions of ‘Riding The Tiger.’ Extensive notes by renowned U.S. writer A. Scott Galloway include quotes from Thom Bell, Narada Michael Walden and Preston Glass among others.

Kaleidoscope / I Know I Love Him
Already established as one of the premier vocalists in contemporary music, adept in the genres of jazz, pop and soul, Nancy Wilson’s tradition of cutting songs that were often first made famous by others was apparent on both 1971’s KALEIDOSCOPE and her 1973 set I KNOW I LOVE HIM.
KALEIDOSCOPE, produced by Nancy’s longtime production associate David Cavanaugh with arrangements by Phil Wright and James Mack, included tunes popularized by Bill Withers (‘Ain’t No Sunshine’), Gladys Knight & The Pips (‘If I Were Your Woman’) and Sammy Davis Jr. (‘Mr. Bojangles’) among others. Featured also was ‘The Greatest Performance Of My Life’ which became an instant Wilson classic and a staple of her live repertoire.
1973’s I KNOW I LOVE HIM was distinct from previous Wilson albums with Nancy using popular jazz group, The Crusaders as the rhythm section with master arranger/conductor Don Sebesky (known for his work with Astrud Gilberto, George Benson and Esther Phillips among others) adding his formidable skills. With exceptional tunes such as the Marvin Gaye-penned ‘We Can Make It Baby,’ ‘Can I’ (popularized by Eddie Kendricks) and ‘Don’t Misunderstand,’ the LP has been a hidden gem In the Wilson catalogue for many years.
With stellar notes from renowned writer A.Scott Galloway that include rare 2013 quotes from Nancy herself, this two-on-one set (part of the on-going reissue of Nancy’s work by SoulMusic Records) brings together two albums making their CD debut worldwide.
