Foolish Fool - Dee Dee Warwick

Foolish Fool
SoulMusic Records is proud to celebrate one of the ‘first families of soul music’ with the 2012 reissue of three titles that reflect the amazing talent of sisters Dee Dee Warwick and Dionne Warwick and their aunt Cissy Houston - via the Isaac Hayes & Dionne Warwick 1977 ‘live’ album A Man & A Woman (SMCR-5055); an expanded edition of Presenting Cissy Houston (SMCR-5054) and this expanded edition of Dee Dee Warwick’s 1969 LP, FOOLISH FOOL.

The younger sister of international music legend Dionne Warwick, Dee Dee Warwick had experienced chart success in the U.S. after she signed with the Blue Rock/Mercury labels in 1965, achieving Top 10 R&B status with ‘I Want To Be With You’ and following it with her original version of the now-classic ‘I’m Gonna Make You Love Me.’

Dee Dee’s next major hit came in 1969 when she reunited with producer Ed Townsend for one of the most emotionally-charged recordings of her career.  ‘Foolish Fool,’ now considered a ‘deep soul’ classic not only became another Top 20 R&B hit but earned the East Orange, New Jersey native her first Grammy nomination. The song was covered by Chaka Khan on a 2007 CD.

In 1969, Mercury assembled the FOOLISH FOOL LP, based on different sessions Dee Dee had recorded for the label including an early version of the timeless Bacharach-David tune, ‘Alfie’ (cut in London), ‘It’s Not Fair’ (co-written by Philadelphia music masters Kenny Gamble and Thom Bell and produced by Gamble & Huff) and ‘Thank God,’ recorded with The Teaneck Mass Choir.

The original LP is reissued for the first time in its original form and includes three tracks never released on CD until now; this expanded edition of FOOLISH FOOL includes five non-album singles. With comments and reflections by her famous sister Dionne Warwick, notes are by SoulMusic.com founder David Nathan (whose first published interview as a music journalist was with Dee Dee in 1966).

Press:-

"Northern soul fans have long been into the dancer Don't You Ever Give Up On Me, and the Thom Bell-Kenny Gamble ballad It's Not Fair is a strong example of the emerging Philly sound from 1968. The Waltz tempo Townsend-Warwick song That's Not Love features a searing vocal too, and her second take on I (Who Have Nothing) is a cracker too. Sixties fans will love it".

Gloria Gaynor’s Park Avenue Sound
Grammy Award winner and Hall of Famer, GLORIA GAYNOR was born on the 7th of September 1949 in Newark, N.J. and sang as young girl in her school choir, mixed chorus and the her school’s girl glee club. While she knew she one day wanted to have a career in music, GLORIA GAYNOR still went to school with the aim of having something to fall back on and studied beauty and business courses.
In 1965 GLORIA GAYNOR released her first solo single titled She’ll Be Sorry with the B-Side Let Me Go Baby on Jocida Records. However, it wasn’t until the 1970’s that Gaynor began to taste real success with the release of her first two albums, Experience and Never Can Say Goodbye, (both available on BBR) that she began to stand out as a unique and recognizable force on the black music scene.
In 1978 GLORIA GAYNOR released her 5th studio album, PARK AVENUE SOUND on Polydor Records, now fully remastered and repackaged by BBR!
PARK AVENUE SOUND features some of the best musicians of the time including Keith E. Benson on drums, Norman Harris and Grammy Award Winner Bobby Eli on guitar as well as Grammy Award Winner Ron "Have Mercy” Kersey, who was a member of The Trammps along with Norman Harris.
While the album did not produce any chart hits it did produce some extremely popular club tracks including the single, ‘YOU”RE ALL I NEED TO GET BY’, written by Motown’s prolific songwriting duo, Ashford & Simpson and more recently the song was sampled in the Grammy Award winning duet performed by Method Man and Mary J. Blige on the hit single, ‘I'll Be There for You/You're All I Need to Get By’. Other notable tracks include the celebrated ‘THIS LOVE AFFAIR’, which was a long-standing rare groove underground UK hit.
Park Avenue Sound has since become a cult album for disco and GLORIA GAYNOR fans, having never been released on CD until now!
BBR couldn’t be happier to present the release of Gloria Gaynor – Park Avenue Sound. Lovingly remastered and repackaged complete with extensive liner notes featuring interviews and added bonus content, this BBR Remaster truly is a must have for all Disco, Soul, Funk and R&B fans out there!

In 1978 GLORIA GAYNOR released her 6th studio album, "LOVE TRACKS” on Polydor Records, now fully remastered and repackaged by BBR!
"LOVE TRACKS” features some of the best musicians of the time including Paulinho Da Costa on percussion and Wah Wah Watson on guitar while production duties were left in the capable hands of Dino Fekaris.
"LOVE TRACKS” contains the million-unit selling chart topper, ‘I Will Survive’, originally a B-side to Gloria’s cover of ‘Substitute’. While ‘Substitute’ still obtained chart success it was ‘I Will Survive’, which quickly gained traction in the clubs, and as a result the record label deleted the 12” single and replaced the album version with the 12” version to boost album sales. Other notable tracks include the US Dance chart top 20 hit ‘Anybody Wanna Party’, which simultaneously climbed all the way to #16 on the US R&B Chart.
BBR is so very proud to announce the release of GLORIA GAYNOR – LOVE TRACKS. Lovingly remastered, this CD comes complete with extensive liner notes including interviews and added bonus content making this BBR Remaster a must have item for all Disco, Soul, Funk and R&B fans out there!
