Robbery
In 1983, the artist described by renowned US writer Scott Galloway as "the blackest White soul singer/songwriter to illuminate R&B,” the late, great Teena Marie recorded her first of five albums for Epic Records after an initial tenure with Motown that established her as a potent creative fixture in the world of soul music.
ROBBERY (a Top 20 US R&B best-seller) celebrated a new found sense of freedom for the multi-faceted songwriter, producer and musician L.A. native who wrote or co-wrote all nine tracks on the much-acclaimed nine-track set that included the standouts ‘Casanova Brown,’ ‘Dear Lover,’ ‘Ask Your Momma,’ ‘Shadow Boxing,’ and ‘Fix It’(a Top 30 US R&B hit single)

Break Out
The Pointer Sisters were one of the most successful female groups the music industry has seen with 13 top 20 singles and 8 top 40 albums shared between the US and UK pop charts. The 1983 release of Break Out saw the group reach the peak of their commercial success. This was the group's sixth album with producer Richard Perry, with whom they had three big US Pop hits: FIRE (#2, 1979), HE'S SO SHY (#3, 1980) and Slow Hand (#2, 1981). With BREAK OUT, the group took the advice of RUTH POINTER’s son, who wanted them to record a dance album. PERRY sought out associate producers for each track, giving BREAK OUT the electronic feel of 1983 R&B. The album’s lead single I Need You was recorded to reintroduce the group to their African-American fanbase, reaching the R&B Top 20. Second single Automatic reached #2 R&B and #5 Pop, giving the group their biggest hit for three years and becoming massively successful internationally. Jump (For My Love) followed suit, reaching #3 Pop and R&B in the US and #6 in the UK. BBR is very proud to present this 2CD deluxe edition, featuring the 1983 version of the album (massively successful on its release in the UK) for the first time on CD, plus the updated 1984 version and all of the 12" and 7" versions of each track from the album. Released in a deluxe digipak with 24-page booklet, the extensive liner notes feature interviews with Anita Pointer, Ruth Pointer, Richard Perry and several of the album’s associate producers. This edition of Break Out introduces BBR’s new deluxe 2CD re-masters.

Starchild
The late, great TEENA MARIE had established herself as a consistent hitmaker among black music audiences in the US as a result of five albums for Motown and her 1983 Epic debut set ROBBERY (reissued by SoulMusic Records in 2012 as an expanded edition, SMCR-5048).
With the release of 1984’s STARCHILD (which became a US Top 10 R&B and pop Top 40 best-seller), the L.A. native finally achieved mainstream international pop success thanks to the classic single, ‘Lovergirl,’ which reached No. 4 on Billboard’s Hot 100 chart and became the biggest hit of the multi-talented singer, songwriter, producer and musician’s amazing three-decade-long career.
For the sessions, Teena assembled an all-star cast of musicians and singers that included Leon Ware, Narada Michael Walden, Ronnie McNeir, Billy Griffin, Nathan East, Preston Glass, James Jamerson Jr. and Paulinho Da Costa.
As with its predecessor Robbery, Teena wrote or co-wrote all nine tracks on the album including the standouts ‘Out On A Limb,’ the club hit ‘Jammin’,’ and her soulful tribute to the late Marvin Gaye, ‘My Dear Mr. Gaye.’
This expanded edition of STARCHILD features five bonus tracks including a six-minute-plus instrumental of ‘Lovergirl’ (making its CD debut) and an eight-minute dance mix of ‘Jammin.’

Emerald City
The late, great TEENA MARIE had established herself as a consistent hitmaker as a result of five albums for Motown; after signing with Epic Records in 1983, the multi-talented singer, songwriter, producer and musician released Robbery (reissued by SoulMusic Records in 2012 as an expanded edition, SMCR-5047) following it with her breakthrough 1984 set Starchild (which contained the major hit single, ‘Lovergirl’ (reissued by SoulMusic Records as an expanded edition (SMCR-5048).
The 1986 critically-acclaimed set EMERALD CITY (a US Top 20 R&B best-seller), had a distinctly different flavour from its predecessor: considered more of a concept album from a lyrical standpoint, the eight-track set showcased Teena’s expressive creativity as a songwriter with original compositions like ‘Lips To Find You,’ ‘Shangri La,’ ‘Love Me Down Easy’ and ‘Sunny Skies.’
Star players who worked on EMERALD CITY included jazz greats Branford Marsalis and Stanley Clarke, blues guitarist Stevie Ray Vaughan and funkateer Bootsy Collins alongside ‘A’ list musicians such as Nathan East, Paulinho DaCosta, Abraham Laboriel and John Robinson.
This expanded edition of EMERALD CITY features six bonus cuts including two tracks from soundtracks to which Teena contributed, ‘Lead Me On’ (from "Top Gun”) and the dance hit ‘14K’ (from "The Goonies!).
Essay by renowned US writer A. Scott Galloway include quotes from key players involved with the project.

Naked to the world
The late, great TEENA MARIE had established herself as a consistent hitmaker as a result of five albums for Motown followed by her first three albums for Epic - 1983’s Robbery (reissued by SoulMusic Records in 2012 as an expanded edition, SMCR-5047), the breakthrough 1984 set Starchild (SMCR-5048) and 1986’s concept-driven Emerald City (SMCR-5059).
The singer, songwriter, producer and musician’s 1988 set, NAKED TO THE WORLD catapulted Teena back into the U.S. best-seller lists (reaching No. 15 on the R&B charts), buoyed by her first (and only) No. 1 R&B hit, the now-classic ‘Ooo La La La’ and two duets with funkmaster Rick James - who had produced her ground-breaking first Motown album - via the groove cut, ‘Call Me (I Got Yo Number)’ and the solid slow jam ‘The Once And Future Dream.’
Teena worked with longtime musical collaborator Allen McGrier on the ten-track album which included the funky Top 10 U.S. R&B hit single, ‘Work It’; while Richard Rudolph (husband of the late Minnie Riperton, who had produced her second Motown set, Lady T) served as executive producer.
This expanded edition of NAKED TO THE WORLD features four bonus cuts including the instrumental version of ‘Ooo La La La’ (retitled ‘Sing One To Your Love’).
Notes by renowned US writer Rico Washington include quotes from co-producer McGrier and ex-Klymaxx drummer Bernadette Cooper.
