Coming up in May NowSounds have the following releaeses:
Tantalizing Colours: The Reprise Recordings - MC Squared
MC SQUARED—featuring folk renegades from The Back Porch Majority, as well as legendary studio musicians JIM KELTNER and RANDY STERLING—recorded four exciting singles for Reprise Records during 1967 and 1968. Sounding like a unique hybrid of The Mamas and The Papas and Jefferson Airplane, the Los Angeles-based quintet failed to generate commercial success, and as a result their long-lost 1968 album has since been confined to the vaults...UNTIL NOW! The CD contains their four Reprise singles—two of which were produced by LENNY WARONKER (Van Dyke Parks, Randy Newman, Beau Brummels)—as well as the material that was to comprise their debut LP, all sourced from the original master tapes! Filled with brilliant harmonies and psychedelically experimental left turns, MC SQUARED will appeal to fans of Curt Boettcher, Eternity’s Children, and The Millennium/Ballroom. The 16-page, full-colour booklet includes rare, previously-unpublished photos, and extensive liner notes featuring the participation of original band members.
The Complete Warner Bros. & Valiant Singles Collection - Association
The Association were simply one of the finest, most beloved, and most commercially successful American vocal groups of the 1960s. Yet a complete singles collection of their golden Warner Bros. & Valiant years (1966-1971) has never been collected. UNTIL NOW! Although the popular six-man band initially developed a straight-laced, M.O.R. image, they were actually much more dynamic than that. They helped pioneer the new musical genre dubbed "folk-rock” by Troubadour owner Doug Weston and fused this sound with a sophisticated vocal blend that was on par with The Beach Boys. And contrary to their hop-sack-suited image, they were all spiritual seekers, with one member, Jules Alexander, leaving the band for a pilgrimage to India nearly a year before The Beatles. The deluxe, double Digipak includes a full-colour booklet with previously unpublished photos, and extensive liner notes featuring track-by-track commentary from original band members Terry Kirkman, Russ Giguere, Larry Ramos, Jules Alexander, Ted Bluechel Jr., and Jim Yester; as well as songwriters P.F. Sloan, Ruthann Friedman, Tandyn Almer, and Dick Addrisi; and producers Bones Howe, Jerry Yester, and others!
