Esoteric Recordings are pleased to announce a newly re-mastered CD release of the classic 1972 debut album by the British rock outfit, ELLIS. Formed in December 1971, the band was the brainchild of former LOVE AFFAIR vocalist STEVE ELLIS. Teaming up with celebrated keyboard player ZOOT MONEY, the band took a harder rock direction with jazz overtones. The line-up of the band was completed with the addition of guitarist ANDY GEE, drummer DAVE LUTTON (formerly with Heavy Jelly and The Grease Band) and bass player JIM LEVERTON (formerly with FAT MATTRESS and JUICY LUCY). Championed by former JIMI HENDRIX EXPERIENCE drummer MITCH MITCHELL, the band secured a contract with Epic Records in 1972 and recorded their debut album the same year. Produced by another well-known admirer, ROGER DALTREY, "Riding on the Crest of a Slump” was an impressive album and contained many fine tracks including the classic ‘El Doomo’ (later a huge hit for Yugoslavian band Smak in Europe in 1976), the fine ‘Angela’ and ‘Your Game’.

This Esoteric Recordings edition has been remastered from the original Epic master tapes and features a booklet that restores the original album artwork and includes a new essay.

Epic Forest
Though it made little impact on its original release in 1972, Rare Bird’s “Epic Forest” has since been widely acclaimed as a classic of the pre-punk era: a unique album that fuses the emotional reach of classical music with the harmonies of Sixties pop, yet without ever succumbing to the excesses of the period. In the whole history of rock, only two bands have ever achieved any degree of prominence with a line-up that included two keyboards players and no guitarist, Rare Bird and Greenslade. The original Rare Bird, formed in 1969 comprised of organist (and principal composer) Graham Field, electric pianist Dave Kaffinettti, vocalist Steve Gould and drummer Mark Ashton and it was this line-up that made an immediate impression with their eponymous debut, which was also the debut of Charisma records. Its successor ‘As Your Mind Flies By’ was equally a success, with the band also making Billboard magazines Top Ten New Bands Of The Year while ‘Sympathy’ reached the UK Top 30. It was an ever bigger hit over in Europe more, particularly France where it was a huge Summer hit and became the disco-smooch soundtrack of choice for a generation! Yet with Rare Bird’s course for greater things seemingly well set, it came as a something of a shock to fans when Field upped and left to form the short lived Fields. This would result in a change of direction that would surprise all! Much of the classical tendencies went with Field, alongside the addition of second lead vocalist/guitarist Andy ‘Ced’ Curtis and Gold’s decision to take up the axe resulted in a sound that owed more to the lush harmonies of Harmony Grass and the duelling guitars of Wishbone Ash than ELP or Yes. When any band re-invents itself quite so comprehensively there is always a price to pay in the terms of those fans that cleave the earlier style. Those who had claimed them for the Prog-Rock movement felt especially betrayed by the shift. Yet to anyone without such narrowly defined loyalties, ‘Epic Forest’ has clearly weathered the decades better than either of its two predecessors. In purely commercial terms it failed to capitalise on the success of Rare Bird’s first two albums yet it contained no shortage of songs that would enable the band to cement their reputation as a storming live act with songs that afforded Gould and Curtis scope to dovetail their guitar to thrilling effect. ‘Epic Forest’ stands as one of the most inspired and individual albums of an oft-derided period, while Rare Bird are remembered as one of the handful of bands who found a genuinely distinctive way of fusing the harmonic languages of Sixties pop and classical music without ever resorting to the empty flourishes and pointless virtuosity that so discredited Prog-Rock and finally brought the whole edifice crashing down in 1976. Bad Attitude: 30th Anniversary Edition
•    "Bad Attitude” is Meat Loaf’s fourth studio album. Representing an upswing in the singer’s career, the album features four singles; ‘Nowhere Fast’, ‘Modern Girl’, ‘Surf's Up’ and ‘Piece Of The Action’.

•    After the phenomenal success of debut LP "Bat Out Of Hell” in 1977 (34 million copies and counting), Meat Loaf followed it with 1981’s "Dead Ringer”, another sizeable hit, with both albums showcasing the mercurial song writing talents of Jim Steinman. Having then parted company with Steinman, 1983’s "Midnight At The Lost And Found” found the singer in somewhat of a commercial dip, until 1984’s "Bad Attitude”. It features two Steinman penned tunes, ‘Surf’s Up’, previously recorded for Jim Steinman’s solo debut "Bad For Good” in 1981 plus ‘Nowhere Fast’, which had originally been written for the soundtrack to the movie "Streets Of Fire”.

•    There are also two notable duets on this record; The Who’s Roger Daltrey appears on the title track, whilst Clare Torry, who is probably best known for her vocals on Pink Floyd’s "Dark Side Of The Moon”, duets on ‘Modern Girl’.

•    This edition is packaged in a digi-pak with extensive liner notes, 16 page booklet, plus plenty of rare artwork and memorabilia.

TRACK LIST

1.    BAD ATTITUDE (Duet With Roger Daltrey)
2.    MODERN GIRL (Duet With Clare Torry)
3.    NOWHERE FAST
4.    SURF'S UP
5.    PIECE OF THE ACTION
6.    JUMPIN' THE GUN (Duet With Zee Carling)
7.    CHEATIN' IN YOUR DREAMS
8.    DON'T LEAVE YOUR MARK ON ME
9.    SAILOR TO A SIREN
