Fellini Masterpieces: La Strada / Nights of Cabiria
The artistic partnership between film director Federico Fellini and composer Nino Rota was one of the most productive and enduring in cinema history. "La Strada" and "Nights of Cabiria" announced their arrival on the scene to an awestruck Italian and international public. Both movies won academy awards for "the best foreign language film"; establishing the style that would soon reach full expression with the renowned "La Dolce Vita".

These are the original mono soundtracks recorded in 1952 and 1956 respectively: the same recordings that are used on the films and both are long out of print in any format.

The Last Picture Show
Released in 1971 and hailed as the most impressive work by a young American director since Citizen Kane, Peter Bogdanovich's Last Picture Show is an elegiac study of life amid the dust and loneliness of a dying town. An account of adolescents coming of age filmed  under a vast, empty Texas sky.
The film has no conventional score. All of the music is from the period between November 1951 and October 1952 when the film is set and linked to each scene. It is played on home radios, car radios, truck radios, 45 rpm players, jukeboxes, and at a community Christmas dance. The Hank Williams song, heard on the radio in Sonny's old truck in the opening scene, ‘Why Don't You Love Me (Like You Used to Do)?’ sets the tone for the music as well as the movie. All of the songs featured in the film are collected together in this edition.

Low-key, perceptive, bleak, and melancholy, The Last Picture Show shares with Welles' Magnificent Ambersons, a heartache for a time and place forever gone. The film boasts some superlative performances from the ensemble cast which the Academy recognised in awarding Oscars to Cloris Leachman and the monumental Ben Johnson. It is more than a great film, it is a supremely moving work of art…

Press:-

"If your mood is right, this is a delight, with artists such as Frankie Laine, Eddy Arnold and Kay Starr showing us how it should be done, with charisma and effortless vocal performance that have rarely been bettered". 4/5* (Record Collector August 2012)

SCARED TO GET HAPPY A STORY OF INDIE-POP 1980-1989
SCARED TO GET HAPPY (A Story Of Indie Pop 1980-1989) is the first box set ever to document the explosion of Indie Pop in Britain across the 1980s. Compiled in loosely chronological fashion, the five CDs chart Indie Pop’s development from the post punk era and the dominance of Scottish bands through to its genre-defining C86 period and onto the end of the decade, with the arrival of Madchester and the shoegazing sound.

Inspired by the Nuggets compilations, the box set boasts 134 tracks spanning the Eighties, drawn from all the key labels of the period – Creation, Factory, Cherry Red, Rough Trade, Sarah, Subway Organisation, Zoo, Kitchenware, Pink, Chapter 22, In Tape, Medium Cool, Lazy, Dreamworld, 53rd & 3rd, Ron Johnson, el, Vindaloo, Red Rhino, Food, etc.

Many of the bands later tasted mainstream success: Primal Scream, Aztec Camera, Stone Roses, Pulp, the Wonder Stuff, Lloyd Cole & The Commotions, the Inspiral Carpets, the Soup Dragons, the Wedding Present, James, the La’s, del Amitri, the Primitives, the Jesus & Mary Chain, Prefab Sprout, the Shamen, Cud, the Bluebells, Black, the House Of Love, Strawberry Switchblade, Pop Will Eat Itself, the Darling Buds, Fuzzbox, That Petrol Emotion, the Railway Children, Jamie Wednesday (as Carter USM), the Milltown Brothers and the Boo Radleys.

The box set boasts a stylish 54-page booklet with a lengthy sleeve-note detailing each track and illustrations of the records and bands involved.

A few tracks (Strawberry Switchblade, Soup Dragons, Bluebells, Close Lobsters, etc.) have never officially been released before. Many others are extremely rare and make their debut on CD.

SCARED TO GET HAPPY will be promoted by a mini-festival at London’s 229 club on June 22nd, with an impressive roster: the Primitives, the BMX Bandits, the Brilliant Corners, the June Brides, Mighty Mighty, the Wolfhounds, the Popguns, 14 Iced Bears, the Blue Orchids and Yeah Yeah Noh.

Black And Dekker - The Complete Stiff Recordings 1980 - 1982

·A legend in Jamaican music, Desmond Dekker was the island’s first ‘outernational’ star, scoring huge hits in the late 60s with the likes of ‘007’, ‘It Mek’ and ‘Israelites’.

·This 2-CD set boasts all of Desmond’s recordings for Stiff between 1980 and 1982, including two albums plus stray B-sides and a brace of exclusive tracks from the rare ‘Hot City’ 12”. This was a successful period for Dekker, who enjoyed renewed popularity on the back of the 2 Tone movement.

·The majority of these recordings are currently unavailable on CD. In fact, the two albums have only been issued before as rare Japanese imports!

·Black And Dekker was self-produced with help from Vic Keary and Stiff boss Dave Robinson and engineered by the likes of Sid Bucknor (like Keary, a Trojan Records veteran). The album boasted reworkings of several of his classic 1960s singles. Also included here is ‘Juliet’, which was omitted from the UK/European edition.
