Look For A Star: 1959-62 - Tony Hatch

Look For A Star: 1959-62
•    Tony Hatch is quite simply one of Britain's greatest songwriters and one of our most popular composers. If you don't know this man's name you will undoubtedly be familiar with his work.

•    Hatch (writing alone, or in tandem with his partner Jackie Trent), was responsible for some of the most brilliantly crafted hits of the 1960s. Their melodies defined the era. There's no higher praise.

•    Downtown, Call Me, Joanna, Where Are You Now (My Love), Forget Him, Don't Sleep In The Subway, I couldn't Live Without Your Love to name but a few. Hits for Petula Clark, Scott Walker, Chris Montez, The Searchers and many others.

•    And as if the great songwriting were not enough Hatch also wrote memorable and long enduring themes for such successful television shows as Crossroads, Sportsnight, Man Alive, Neighbours and Emmerdale Farm He is quite simply one of the most broadcast composers Britain has ever known.

•    This is an anthology of early Hatch recordings. Many impossibly rare. We feature two of the five versions of Look For A Star that hit the American single chart simultaneously during the summer of 1960 (including the Garry Mills version that featured in the film Circus of Horrors and reached No.7 in the UK chart) an array of early 60s compositions, productions and arrangements and the A and B sides of all of the solo singles Hatch recorded for Top Rank and Pye between 1959-1962.

The Good, The Bad And The Upsetters (Jamaican Edition)
Performer, producer, singer, mixer, sound alchemist, eccentric, The Upsetter Lee "Scratch” Perry born Rainford Hugh Perry in 1936 , Kendal, Jamaica, is one of the most recognisable and well known characters of the reggae world.

The UK version of "The Good, The Bad and The Upsetters” was released by Trojan Records in 1970, and although it had the Upsetters name on it, Lee Perry had no hand in its conception or production. Angered that an Upsetters album was released without his involvement, Perry issued his own version of the album back home in Jamaica using the same Trojan album artwork but with totally different songs and a new stickered tracklist on the back.

Features brand new artwork and reissued for the first time with permission from Lee Perry himself

This 1971 album shows the beginnings of Lee Perry’s trademark production eccentricities with rum punch drunk steel pan drums, doom mongering monophonic synth lines, Upsetters style organ skanks and sparse arrangements that would help develop the building blocks of dub.

Contains 13 instrumental versions and a DJ version of ‘Same Thing All Over.’

Hello Everyone - Popsike Sparks From Denmark Street 1968-70
•    Between 1968 and 1970, some of the finest, most obscure British psychedelic pop singles of the era escaped on the Spark label, the newly-inaugurated recording arm of long-established publishers Southern Music.

•    Recorded in the basement studio of the company’s Denmark Street premises, these tracks often featured the same cabal of musicians and songwriters, leading to a homogenous in-house style that perfectly encapsulates the late 1960s British pop-psych studio sound.

•    The best of Spark’s impressive roster is now collected on CD for the first time on Hello Everyone: Popsike Sparks from Denmark Street 1968-70, which assembles highly-prized, highly-priced 45s from pre-Rare Bird band Fruit Machine, Gene Latter, post-Sorrows outfit the Eggy, the New Generation (subsequently to become the Sutherland Brothers), the Dennis Wheatley-inspired Icarus and both sides of the magnificent and astonishingly rare single by Sir Ching I (only one stock copy known to exist).  Also included are exquisite Brit popsike singles from Timothy Blue, Just William, both sides of the superb John Carter/Russ Alquist collaboration ‘The Laughing Man’/‘Midsummer Dreaming’ and two sensational offerings from Eartha Kitt during her brief and unlikely immersion in late Sixties hippy chick chic.

•    Crammed with vintage three-minute pop tunes, and with a lavish 16-page booklet that features rare photos, quotes and the full story behind the label, Hello Everyone is simply an essential purchase for admirers of the British psychedelic pop genre.

• THE COMPLETE CAPITOL RECORDINGS!
• 29 TRACKS — EIGHT PREVIOUSLY UNRELEASED!
• ALL SOURCED FROM THE ORIGINAL MASTER TAPES!

A regular vocalist on ABC-TV’s Shindig!, and cast member of American International Pictures’ Beach Party series, DONNA LOREN was a recording artist for Capitol Records in the mid-’60s, cutting one classic soundtrack LP: Beach Blanket Bingo. But there’s so much more to the story.

These Are The Good Times: The Complete Capitol Recordings reveals Donna to be an extraordinary vocalist creating Spectorian-like wonder with some of the finest talent in Hollywood during the golden era of pop. Participants include Wrecking Crew members as well as legendary producers DAVID AXELROD, STEVE DOUGLAS, and arrangers JACK NITZSCHE, BILLY STRANGE, and H.B. BARNUM. Even the BEAU BRUMMELS appear on a track (‘It’s Gotta Be’), along with GLEN CAMPBELL.

In addition to her album - presented from the original MONO masters for the first time on CD - all 5 of her original Capitol singles circa 1964–1965, are also here. Rounding out the collection are 8 previously unreleased tracks that will leave you baffled as to why they were left in the can!

The deluxe, full-colour booklet also includes rare, unpublished photos and extensive liner notes penned by three-time Grammy nominee Sheryl Farber that feature the participation of Donna herself. Mastered by Alan Brownstein FROM THE ORIGINAL MASTER TAPES!

Sings Doom
•    Bohemian jazz singer, authority on Dada and Surrealism, TV arts quiz show presenter (remember Channel 4's Gallery?), raconteur, frock-coated curator at the Tate Gallery and a great showman who never did anything by half; George Melly was a national institution.

•    Sings Doom is an anthology of George Melly single A & B sides, both solo and with The Mick Mulligan Band, recorded between 1955 and 1962.

•    Our presentation includes the excessively rare Melly EP's, 'George Melly Sings Doom', 'Nothing Personal - George Melly Sings The Blues' and 'Abdul Abulbul Amir : George Melly Sings Songs Of Frank Crumit'.

•    'George Melly Sings Doom' may be seen as a soundtrack / companion piece to Melly's supremely entertaining first volume of autobiography, Owning-Up, a loving evocation of the hedonist jazz scene of 1950s Britain.

Dancing Marquis
FEATURING COLLABORATIONS WITH TONY VISCONTI, JARVIS COCKER, CARL BARAT and DANIELZ

•    New release ‘Dancing Marquis’ compiles together the 6 tracks released previously on two strictly limited edition vinyl EPs and adds another two brand new tracks and two exclusive and stunning remixes.

•    In 2013, Marc Almond realised the ambition of a lifetime when he attended a few recording sessions with the legendary record producer Tony Visconti, famous for his work with David Bowie, Hazel O'Connor, T-Rex, The Moody Blues and Morrissey. The stunning results of their unique collaboration are the two tracks 'Burn Bright' / 'The Dancing Marquis' that kick-off this CD.

•    Next to producer Tris Penna, Tony Visconti also lends a helping hand on string arrangements and mixing duties on two further tracks, ‘Tasmanian Tiger’, and ‘Death of a Dandy’, the latter inspired by the recent death of Soho’s tragic artist Sebastian Horsley and which also features special guest Danielz from T-Rex tribute ‘T.Rextasy’.

•    Carrying on in this collaborative vein, the CD also includes the talents of Martin McCarrick (Siouxsie And The Banshees, Therapy?) contributing  cello on the hearteningly buoyant 'Burn Bright' and strings on the title-track 'The Dancing Marquis', a song that Marc Almond wrote 'with Henry Paget 5th Marquess of Anglesey in mind'.

•    Jarvis Cocker brings to the mix an infectious electro-pop number he wrote especially for Marc, ‘Worship Me Now’, where he also features as a special guest on backing vocals and on the production duties with Jason Buckle (All Seeing I). Two additional dance remixes of ‘Worship Me Now’ are also included exclusively on this release. ‘Love Is Not On Trial’ sees Marc Almond continuing his collaboration with Carl Barat (Libertines), his co-star in the 2012 opera ‘Poppea’ at Theatre du Chatelet in Paris.

•    Produced again by Tris Penna, the song was written especially for Marc by Carl, who also features on guitar and vocals.

•    Completing this release are two further all new tracks, So What’s Tonight? and Idiot Dancing.

This product is released June 16 2014 and will not be dispatched before this date.
