The Pilgrim / Rain Rainbow - Larry Gatlin

The Pilgrim / Rain Rainbow
•    Texan Singer/Songwriter Larry Gatlin’s first two solo albums from 1973 and 1974.  Larry Gatlin found success as a solo artist as well as with The Gatlin Brothers, becoming one of the most popular recording artists of the 1970s and 1980s.

•    It was whilst singing with The Imperials, a gospel group in Las Vegas that he became friends with country singer Dottie West who was also appearing on the same bill.  Impressed by his song-writing skills, Dottie recorded two of his songs straight away and paid for his air fare to Nashville where he was employed as a staff writer for her new publishing company.

•    Dottie pitched his songs to Kris Kristofferson who then sent them on to Fred Foster, owner of Monument Records, who immediately signed him to the label.

•    "The Pilgrim” contained two country chart singles ‘Sweet Becky Walker’ and ‘Bitter They Are, Harder They Fall’, the latter recorded by Elvis in 1976.  Elvis also recorded ‘Help Me’ in 1974. Liner notes by Johnny Cash.

•    "Rain Rainbow” contains the country and pop chart single ‘Delta Dirt’.

•    Albums produced by Fred Foster.

•    Both albums appear for the first time on CD.

•    This CD is released 28th April and will not be shipped prior to this date.

Street Language / Diamonds & Dirt
Rodney Crowell was one of the most gifted songwriters of the Texas honky-tonk school of the 1970’s and 80’s. The 1986 acclaimed album Street Language, was an eclectic effort co-produced by Memphis soul legend Booker T. Jones, and feature Billy Joe Walker, and John Hiatt.

Crowell finally broke through commercially in 1988 with Diamonds & Dirt, a record which generated a string of five number one singles with It's Such a Small World (a duet with Rosanne Cash), I Couldn't Leave You If I Tried, She's Crazy for Leavin' (co-written by Guy Clark), After All This Time, and Above and Beyond . Keys To The Highway was also very successful. Rodney won a Grammy in 1989 for the

Best Country Song:

Let The Picture Paint Itself / Jewel Of The South
Released on 17/10/11. Rodney Crowell was one of the most gifted songwriters of the Texas honky-tonk school of the 1970's and 80's. Let The Picture Paint Itself is an impressive record. A collection of Nashville heavy hitters were involved, including Trisha Yearwood and Patty Loveless helping out on backing vocals.

Jewel Of The South rocks and rolls with abandon, from the  40s-tinged big band sound of The Ballad Of Possum Potez to the soaring title track. The record contained a line-up of guitarists that anyone would die for John Jorgenson (once of the Desert Rose Band and already establishing himself as an Elton John sideman), Briton Albert Lee (another graduate of the Hot Band, and musical director for the Everly Brothers), Steuart Smith (later to join the Eagles family), former Cherry Bomb Richard Bennett, and Nashville stalwarts Billy Joe Walker Jr and Kenny Vaughan. When it comes to backing vocals, Vince Gill on The Ladder Of Love (co-written with Lee Roy Parnell), Raul Malo of the Mavericks on the Harlan Howard/Buck Owens number Storm Of Love , Claudia Church on Just Say Yes , and Kim Richey on Please Remember Me
