How High: Expanded Edition - Salsoul Orchestra (The)

How High: Expanded Edition
•    BBR is proud to bring you HOW HIGH, the seventh instalment of our Salsoul Orchestra reissues .

•    THE SALSOUL ORCHESTRA was the brainchild of once MFSB member and legendary vibraphonist, Vince Montana Jr. Formed in 1974, THE SALSOUL ORCHESTRA, house band for the remarkable Salsoul Records, sometimes featured up to 50 members amongst its ranks including a number of former musicians from MFSB, and fused elements of Funk, Latin, Disco and Philly Soul into their compositions. THE SALSOUL ORCHESTRA began an eight-year recording period in 1975 releasing eleven sensational albums during that time featuring production input from, Stan Lucas, Patrick Adams, Bunny Sigler and Tom Moulton through the years.

•    Stand out tracks include the opener, title track and single "How High” (R&B #62/Pop #105/Disco #21), a solid, funky disco groove with crisp, driving drums and percussion and great interplay between the saxophone, guitar, vibes and vocals (also represented on this release with a Larry Levan remix), My Number's Up’ and ‘I'll Keep You Warm,’ both great percussion and horn led dancers with a carnival feel, and "Resorts International,” a typically feel good Salsoul stomp.

Flying Again / Airborne
To many people, the mere mention of West Coast country rockers The Flying Burrito Brothers evokes memories of the talismanic Gram Parsons, continuing to live out hisAmerican cosmic music dream. True, Parson’s brief tenure with the band fell in between his even shorter time with The Byrds and his sadly equally short-lived solo career. But as these two Flying Burrito Brothers albums, along with a career that lasted even into the new Millennium, there’s a lot more to the Flying Burritos than Gram Parsons. When Gram Parsons died in September 1973, the legend surrounding his death led to increased interest in his musical legacy. A&M, keen to cashin, released the compilation album Close Up The Honky Tonks in 1974. This in turn prompted band members Ethridge and Kleinow to revive The Flying Burrito Brothers, this time with ex-Byrds guitarist Gene Parsons and country musicians Floyd Gib Guilbeau and Joel Scott Hill. The new-look band signed to Columbia Records, and released Flying Again , the first of these two albums in 1975. It ‘s a perfect example of the way country rock music had developed since The Byrds broke new ground with Sweetheart Of The Rodeo through to the manner in which the likes of the Eagles and Jackson Browne were now beginning to command American airwaves. The Salsoul Orchestra
THE SALSOUL ORCHESTRA - as well as being the legendary backing band for many of the Salsoul Records artists - were a highly successful act in their own right. Diamond Touch
Born in West Palm Beach, Florida in 1944, George McCrae started his musical career singing in church and later joining the glee club at school. He formed his own singing group called The Jivin’ Jets before joining the navy in 1963 and reformed the group on his return in 1967 with the addition of his wife Gwen before they later decided to work as a duo on Henry Stone’s Alston label before Gwen went solo and George worked on sessions until a chance moment had him record Rock Your Baby, written by Harry Wayne Casey and Richard Finch of KC and the Sunshine Band.
Following the huge success of ‘Rock Your Baby’, Grammy Award Nominee, GEORGE McCRAE, followed with the release of his self-titled second solo effort in 1975 (both available on BBR), the latter of which was very well received in the US and even more so in the UK.
The follow up album DIAMOND TOUCH, released in 1976, continues in the rich vein of his previous two LPs. Recorded in New York and produced by Gregg Diamond (hence the title) DIAMOND TOUCH spawned the single ‘Love In Motion’, a super-funky disco stomper with a down and dirty clavinet vamp that drives the track (courtesy of Robert Geiger), and an inspired sax solo from Joe Ferguson, which typifies the strength of Groove across the album, complementing Georges incredible and incomparable Soul vocal talents.
BBR is very proud to present this newly re-mastered and stunningly re-packaged expanded edition of DIAMOND TOUCH complete with extensive liner notes and additional bonus content.
This BBR re-master is a must have item for any Soul, Disco and R&B fans! Especially those who have picked up the BBR re-masters of "Rock Your Baby” and "George McCrae” and want to add to their McCrae collection.
