Plasticland - Plasticland

Plasticland
Plasticland is an American Neo-Psychedelic and Garage rock (revival) band, formed in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, in 1980 by, Glenn Rehse and John Frankovic.

Several guitarists and drummers have been in the band over time, but Glenn Rehse and John Frankovic has remained the core of the band. Dan Mullen was the second guitarist for most of the 1980s recordings.

Color Appreciation (1984), was the original name of their first album, originally released on the French Lolita label.

The duo of Glenn Rehse and John Frankovic, with new bandmates, are still performing, recently opening for Blue Cheer.

In January 2008 John Frankovic and Victor Demechei retired their services from the group. The group has been sustained by Glenn Rehse and new guitarist Leroy Buth (previously of the legendary Milwaukee punk rock group The Lubricants).

Flying Again / Airborne
To many people, the mere mention of West Coast country rockers The Flying Burrito Brothers evokes memories of the talismanic Gram Parsons, continuing to live out hisAmerican cosmic music dream. True, Parson’s brief tenure with the band fell in between his even shorter time with The Byrds and his sadly equally short-lived solo career. But as these two Flying Burrito Brothers albums, along with a career that lasted even into the new Millennium, there’s a lot more to the Flying Burritos than Gram Parsons. When Gram Parsons died in September 1973, the legend surrounding his death led to increased interest in his musical legacy. A&M, keen to cashin, released the compilation album Close Up The Honky Tonks in 1974. This in turn prompted band members Ethridge and Kleinow to revive The Flying Burrito Brothers, this time with ex-Byrds guitarist Gene Parsons and country musicians Floyd Gib Guilbeau and Joel Scott Hill. The new-look band signed to Columbia Records, and released Flying Again , the first of these two albums in 1975. It ‘s a perfect example of the way country rock music had developed since The Byrds broke new ground with Sweetheart Of The Rodeo through to the manner in which the likes of the Eagles and Jackson Browne were now beginning to command American airwaves. Our Broadside release brings together their two fantastic Epic/CBS albums from 1977 and 1978 – in their entirety. This is the UK/European debut of these albums on CD, and the first time that they have appeared anywhere together as a complete – and specially priced – package. Megaton
A thrilling, no-holds-barred, heavy rock treatment
of a clutch of riff-based but fairly commercial pop tunes,
Megaton'ssole album has plenty of admirers these days. Perhaps
this should be a rock label staple, but the LPs origins are more pop
than that with more akin to those ranks of over looked production
library classics recorded for one purpose and taking on a different
guise and importance to collectors years later. For Megaton is
the creative inspiration of vocal harmony leader Les Humphries (as in
The Les Humphries Singers, big hit makers in early 70'sGermany) and his
writing partner/right hand LHS man, Jimmy Bilsbury. Perhaps
having the likes of future Uriah Heep vocalist John Lawton in the midst
of the LHS was an inspiration, but whatever, Humphries nose for a
commercial opportunity sniffed out the Free, Led Zep hard rock/ blues
rock market and he duly delivered. A 1971 Deram release, first in
Germany, other territories later inc. South America, and the UK -where
today such a pressing can set you back over £700 ! RPM presents
it'sfirst legitimate reissue on CD.

Songs Of Love
Anita Ward hails from that hotbed of Southern Soul music Memphis, TN, and unsurprisingly started her association with music from an early age. Having honed her strong soprano voice singing Gospel in Memphis, Anita recorded with the Rust College A Capella Choir before going on to record with her own Gospel quartet. Anita then concentrated on a career as a teacher but her vocal talents could not be denied so before long her manager had turned her on to song-writer/producer Frederick Knight (who himself had a substantial R&B crossover hit in 1972 with ‘I’ve Been Lonely For So Long’ on the Stax imprint) and Knight was so impressed with Anita’s talents that the initial session progressed into a full albums worth of material.
The result of those sessions produced Anita’s debut LP SONGS OF LOVE (R&B #2 /Pop #8) and a deal with the legendary label T.K. Records was struck. The majority of the tracks on the album are mid-tempo grooves and stunning ballads which Anita owns with her warm soprano voice. Anita’s performance on this record strongly compliments the very assured song-writing and production from Knight with the stand out tracks being ‘Spoiled By Your Love’ and ‘There’s No Doubt About It’.
Despite having a very strong set of songs it was decided that the album was missing a final track so Knight re-worked a song he had written for a previous project and presented it to Anita. She was initially sceptical about the track but the song was recorded with Knight being one of the first to use synth-drums at that time. That track was the now legendary ‘Ring My Bell’, which became the albums only US single. ‘Ring My Bell’ was an instant hit and up-tempo disco classic which eclipsed the success of Donna Summer’s ‘Hot Stuff’ and Sister Sledges ‘We Are Family’ in the summer of 1979 by reaching the pinnacle across all of the main Billboard singles charts, securing an R&B, Pop and Disco #1 and selling over a million copies in the process, propelling Songs Of Love into the Billboard top ten. The song also topped charts internationally reaching #1 in New Zealand, Norway and the UK.
BBR is very proud to bring you SONGS OF LOVE, completely re-mastered and repackaged complete with extensive liner notes and extended bonus content.
SONGS OF LOVE is essential for all R&B, Soul and Disco fans out there!
