Hello Everyone - Popsike Sparks From Denmark Street 1968-70 - Various Artists

Hello Everyone - Popsike Sparks From Denmark Street 1968-70
•    Between 1968 and 1970, some of the finest, most obscure British psychedelic pop singles of the era escaped on the Spark label, the newly-inaugurated recording arm of long-established publishers Southern Music.

•    Recorded in the basement studio of the company’s Denmark Street premises, these tracks often featured the same cabal of musicians and songwriters, leading to a homogenous in-house style that perfectly encapsulates the late 1960s British pop-psych studio sound.

•    The best of Spark’s impressive roster is now collected on CD for the first time on Hello Everyone: Popsike Sparks from Denmark Street 1968-70, which assembles highly-prized, highly-priced 45s from pre-Rare Bird band Fruit Machine, Gene Latter, post-Sorrows outfit the Eggy, the New Generation (subsequently to become the Sutherland Brothers), the Dennis Wheatley-inspired Icarus and both sides of the magnificent and astonishingly rare single by Sir Ching I (only one stock copy known to exist).  Also included are exquisite Brit popsike singles from Timothy Blue, Just William, both sides of the superb John Carter/Russ Alquist collaboration ‘The Laughing Man’/‘Midsummer Dreaming’ and two sensational offerings from Eartha Kitt during her brief and unlikely immersion in late Sixties hippy chick chic.

•    Crammed with vintage three-minute pop tunes, and with a lavish 16-page booklet that features rare photos, quotes and the full story behind the label, Hello Everyone is simply an essential purchase for admirers of the British psychedelic pop genre.

Crawler / Snake Rattle and Roll
Field a not in Database

20 mouth-watering servings of classic British [with a fair helping of American] rock from the mid/late-seventies. The band was formed by the remaining members of Back Street Crawler after the demise of their ex-Free, legendary main man and all-round guitar hero, Paul Kossoff. Our Broadside release brings together their two fantastic Epic/CBS albums from 1977 and 1978 – in their entirety. This is the UK/European debut of these albums on CD, and the first time that they have appeared anywhere together as a complete – and specially priced – package. Also includes a bonus track: the single version of ‘Stone Cold Sober'.

Megaton
A thrilling, no-holds-barred, heavy rock treatment
of a clutch of riff-based but fairly commercial pop tunes,
Megaton'ssole album has plenty of admirers these days. Perhaps
this should be a rock label staple, but the LPs origins are more pop
than that with more akin to those ranks of over looked production
library classics recorded for one purpose and taking on a different
guise and importance to collectors years later. For Megaton is
the creative inspiration of vocal harmony leader Les Humphries (as in
The Les Humphries Singers, big hit makers in early 70'sGermany) and his
writing partner/right hand LHS man, Jimmy Bilsbury. Perhaps
having the likes of future Uriah Heep vocalist John Lawton in the midst
of the LHS was an inspiration, but whatever, Humphries nose for a
commercial opportunity sniffed out the Free, Led Zep hard rock/ blues
rock market and he duly delivered. A 1971 Deram release, first in
Germany, other territories later inc. South America, and the UK -where
today such a pressing can set you back over £700 ! RPM presents
it'sfirst legitimate reissue on CD.

Love, Poetry And Revolution
Cherry Red’s dedicated UK psych imprint Grapefruit is proud to announce the release in October of the 3CD anthology Love, Poetry and Revolution: a journey through the British psychedelic and underground scenes 1966-1972. · Housed in a clambox with a lavishly annotated and illustrated 36 page booklet, this important release features much rare material, including previously unissued demo recordings by Tintern Abbey and Blossom Toes.

Various heavyweight underground bands (The Crazy World Of Arthur Brown, Hawkwind, The Deviants, etc) rub shoulders with acts who recorded some of the rarest, most valuable albums of the era (Forever Amber, Complex, Peter Howell & John Ferdinando), while the box also includes a number of subterranean bands - Middle Earth regulars Jade Hexagram, Neon Pearl, Respect and others – who failed to release anything during their lifetime. ·

Embracing psychedelic pop (The Mirage, Jason Crest, Shy Limbs, Crocheted Doughnut Ring etc), the burgeoning progressive rock scene (T2, Czar, Fat Mattress) and acid folk (the likes of Simon Finn and Mark Fry), Love, Poetry and Revolution draws on a number of catalogues, including Beacon (The Fut, Information, pre-Damned act Taiconderoga), the Vic Keary stable and various collector labels (Sunbeam, Acme, Tenth Planet/Wooden Hill) to give a fascinating, all-embracing overview of what was a tumultuous few years in British pop/rock history.

The Good, The Bad And The Upsetters (Jamaican Edition)
Performer, producer, singer, mixer, sound alchemist, eccentric, The Upsetter Lee "Scratch” Perry born Rainford Hugh Perry in 1936 , Kendal, Jamaica, is one of the most recognisable and well known characters of the reggae world.

The UK version of "The Good, The Bad and The Upsetters” was released by Trojan Records in 1970, and although it had the Upsetters name on it, Lee Perry had no hand in its conception or production. Angered that an Upsetters album was released without his involvement, Perry issued his own version of the album back home in Jamaica using the same Trojan album artwork but with totally different songs and a new stickered tracklist on the back.

Features brand new artwork and reissued for the first time with permission from Lee Perry himself

This 1971 album shows the beginnings of Lee Perry’s trademark production eccentricities with rum punch drunk steel pan drums, doom mongering monophonic synth lines, Upsetters style organ skanks and sparse arrangements that would help develop the building blocks of dub.

Contains 13 instrumental versions and a DJ version of ‘Same Thing All Over.’

Élucubrations (Antoine On 45 1965–1966)

Elucubrations – Antoine on 45 1965–1966 is the first time the complete tracks from the earliest EPs  by France’s Antoine have been collected – including, as a special bonus, the first-ever reissue of his rare English-language single from 1966.

Antoine was France’s Bob Dylan – his every song a word-filled counterpart to ‘Subterranean Homesick Blues’.

He made waves. France had never seen or heard anything like Antoine. Johnny Hallyday ridiculed his long hair in song. Jacques Dutronc made his debut single ‘Et Mo Et Moi Et Moi’ as a comment on Antoine. He hung out in New York with the Velvet Underground.

His early releases were joyful, tumbling slices of commentary on the issues of the day from war, to the generation gap.

Now he is known from books and television as globe-trotting adventurer, sailing the world’s oceans. This is where the journey began.
