Esoteric Recordings are pleased to announce the release of  "indian Summer” by Panama Limited. The band were originally known as The Panama Limited Jug Band, a collective of musicians formed in the late months of 1968 and soon found favour with DJ John Peel, an early champion of their work, and they became one of the first signings to EMI’s new underground label, Harvest. Their self-titled debut album was released in July 1969 (one of the first on the famous imprint) and has since become a highly sought after record by collectors, with an original copy now being valued at many hundreds of pounds. The band became known as Panama Limited in 1970 and headed in an underground rock direction with a new line-up of Dennis Parker (lead vocals, guitar, banjo), Brian Strachan (guitar, mandolin), Dave Grifiths (Bass, Violin, Keyboards), Anne Matthews (vocals, harpsichord, percussion) and Gary Compton (harmonica). They released their only album in September 1970.

This Esoteric Recordings release features two bonus tracks taken from the band’s extremely rare 1970 single), has been newly remastered from the original Harvest master tapes and features a booklet that restores the original album artwork and includes a new essay.

Prog Is Not A Four Letter Word
Whoever came up with the over-pretentious, collective term "Progressive Rock" couldn’t have been less forward thinking. Prog rock in its truest form was not a ‘restrictive’ genre - it was a movement that unified ALL genres.

Forget such flamboyant cover stars such as Genesis, Yes and ELP, what of the truly progressive international rock musicians who started their own hybrid-hurricanes outside the rectangular iris of Prog's media storm? What about the unintentionally progressive musicians from the far reaches of the globe who were forced to create their own brand of psychedelic rock in a country shielded from the influence of the western world? And why don’t we spare a thought (and some needle time), for the culturally progressive crusaders carrying the rock-music flag in the face of political adversity risking social ostrasization or even death?

Even though most of the 15 tracks on this compilation were recorded over 30 years ago they still, individually embody a wide range of challenging progressive musical ideas which are as relevant today as they were when the vinyl first came off the press in each of their scattered countries of origin.

"Prog Is Not A Four Letter Word" is the follow-up to ANDY VOTEL (TWISTED NERVE)’s critically acclaimed "Folk Is Not A Four Letter Word" (CDDELAY01), which caused quite a stir earlier this year.

The majority of these tracks have never before been on CD, many appear here for the first time away from their highly sought after, and stupendously rare, original releases.

· The wall of picture sleeves featured in the booklet will leave even the richest John Miles collector in the poor house!

Press:-

"This collection of music of the past (no music of the future; that would be impossible sci-fi) showcases Miles as a top talent who simply needed a firm musical direction.”

-Geoff Barton / Classic Rock May 2012

"With all four singer/songwriter/guitarist John Miles’ Decca albums already released by sister label Lemon, the 7T’s imprint releases one which is arguably stronger than the others, as it rounds up the 17 songs Miles released as singles A- and B-sides during his Decca tenure.”
