Heat It Up (Expanded Edition) - Salsoul Orchestra (The)

Heat It Up (Expanded Edition)
The brainchild of once MFSB member and legendary vibraphonist, Vince Montana Jr, THE SALSOUL ORCHESTRA was formed in 1974 and was the house band for the remarkable Salsoul Records, sometimes featured up to 50 members amongst its ranks including a number of former musicians from MFSB of the Gable & Huff fronted Philadelphia International Records and fused elements of Funk, Latin, Disco and Philly Soul into their compositions.

Conducted by Vincent Montana Jr., THE SALSOUL ORCHESTRA began an eight-year recording period in 1975 releasing eleven sensational albums during that time featuring production input from Tom Moulton, Stan Lucas, Patrick Adams and Bunny Sigler through the years.

BBR is proud to bring you the fourth instalment of our Salsoul Orchestra re-issues, HEAT IT UP.  Recorded in New York at Blank Tapes Inc. and released in 1982, HEAT IT UP was guided by the incredible production talents of the aforementioned Patrick Adams who also contributed to the song writing and harnessed the power of long time vocal collaborator Loleatta Holloway who features on 3 of the cuts on this album.

Standout tracks include the singles "Take Some Time Out (For Love)” (featuring a lead vocal from Jocelyn Brown) and "Seconds,” which features the vocal talents of Loleatta Holloway, and the opening and closing tracks penned by Patrick Adams, "Columbia: The Space Shuttle” and the title track "Heat It Up.”

This newly re-mastered, fully expanded edition comes packaged complete with extensive liner notes and added bonus content making this BBR Re-master a must have for all Funk, Soul, Disco, R&B and Philly Soul fans out there!

Utopia
Enchantment were formed in 1967 at Pershing High School in Detroit and secured their first recording contract two years later by winning first place in a talent contest sponsored by Detroit’s WCHB radio station.
In 1970 Enchantment joined the renowned talent agency Artists International and developed their song and stage craft through the early seventies performing throughout the Detroit area. This period culminated in the group recording the soundtrack for the movie ‘Deliver Us From Evil’ which was released on Polydor in 1975.
The following year Enchantment released their eponymous debut LP which kick started a great run of success and the release of further albums over the following few years which spawned the singles ‘Gloria’ (R&B #5) and ‘Sunshine’ (R&B #3), ‘It’s You That I Need’ (R&B #1), and ‘If You’re Ready (Here It Comes)’ (R&B #14, and an underground dance classic)" to name just a few.
Utopia was Enchantments sixth LP released in 1983 and saw the group take a departure from their horn and string led soulful, lush sound, instead putting the Fairlight synthesizer at the core of the album. Utopia contains both passionate ballads and full-on club tracks. ‘Don’t Fight The Feeling’ was the album’s R&B hit single with its relaxing percussive groove and compassionate vocal from Joe ‘Jobie’ Thomas. ‘I’m Dreaming’ sees Emanuel ‘E.J.’ Johnson lend his hair-raising tenor vocal to a gorgeous composition. ‘Somebody’s Loving You’ and ‘Get It While It’s Hot’ are both bone-fide dance-floor shakers with the former demonstrating the group’s aptitude for straight ahead rhythms and solid propulsive bass-lines.
BBR are very proud to present UTOPIA, fully re-mastered with extensive liner notes and bonus tracks.
UTOPIA is a must for all R&B, Soul and Post Disco/Dance fans out there!

MFSB
M.F.S.B. (Mother Father Sister Brother) was the house band for Philadelphia International Records and worked very closely with the production team of Gamble & Huff. They backed up groups such as Harold Melvin & The Blue Notes, The O’Jays, The Stylistics, The Spinners, Wilson Pickett and Billy Paul and are probably best known in their own right for providing the theme music for the legendary TV show Soul Train with ‘T.S.O.P. (The Sound Of Philadelphia)’. With the rise of the Philly soul sound at the beginning of the '70s, business was booming at GambleandHuff's Philadelphia International imprint and as a result M.F.S.B. were kept very busy in the studio providing backing for the aforementioned artists and leaving little time for the groups own recording sessions. It wasn’t until 1973 that the group had a chance to record material in its own name and released their self-titled debut album to high acclaim later that same year. MFSB features extended Funk-Soul-Jazz work-outs as on the seven-minute cover of Curtis Mayfield’s ‘Freddie's Dead’ that opens the set. The group also re-interpreted Sly Stone's ‘Family Affair’ to great effect while emphasising the flute as the driving force for their version of their label mates The O’Jays ‘Back Stabbers’ R&B chart topper from the previous year. The lush Disco/Pop sounds that informed the majority of the group’s later recordings, both in their own right and as the PIR house band, are featured on the other notable tracks on the album, in particular "Poinciana" which also features jazz-blues piano and guitar interjecting the soaring strings. ‘Something For Nothing’ (sampled by Groove Armada) also fits that description with a beautiful string led section that leads to an incredible motif on the horns which blasts through at just the right time, propelling the track forward. BBR is very proud to present MFSB, fully re-mastered and complete with extensive liner notes and bonus tracks. MFSB is a must for all R&B, Soul, Funk and Jazz fans out there!

Born To Love
When Peabo Bryson and Roberta Flack teamed up in 1983 to record the Capitol album BORN TO LOVE, the pair had already experienced success as a duo thanks to the 1980 LP, Live & More (a Top 10 R&B best-selling album). By the time they headed into the studio to cut BORN TO LOVE, Bryson was six years into his recording career and had established himself as one of the premier black male vocalists of the day; Flack was already considered an internationally-renowned artist thanks to classic recordings such as ‘The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face’ and ‘Killing Me Softly With His Song.’
With tracks produced by songwriters Michael Masser, Bob Crewe and Bryson himself, BORN TO LOVE achieved gold status in the US as well as becoming both artists’ highest-charting international success. The impact of the now-classic single, ‘Tonight, I Celebrate My Love’ (co-written by Masser, then known for songs such as Diana Ross’ ‘Touch Me In The Morning’ and Natalie Cole’s ‘Someone That I Used To Love’ and Gerry Goffin) was global, reaching No. 2 on the UK charts, No. 10 in Australia, No. 4 in Canada and No. 16 in the US).
The album also included two other charted singles, ‘Maybe’ and ‘You’re Looking Like Love To Me’ while ‘Heaven Above Me’ got radio and club play in the UK.
This 2013 expanded edition of BORN TO LOVE includes three bonus tracks along with liner notes by Billboard Senior Editor, Gail Mitchell with new quotes from Roberta Flack.
