A Strange Affair - The Sixties Recordings - John's Children

A Strange Affair - The Sixties Recordings
John’s Children were the quintessential cult 60s Mod/Psych band, controversial, sharply dressed and subsequently the stuff of legend.

The band were fronted by Andy Ellison (later with Jet and Radio Stars) and boasted Marc Bolan within their ranks during their short life.

A STRANGE AFFAIR – for the first time – boasts the entire John’s Children output between 1966 and 1970.

The package includes: * Two singles for EMI’s Columbia label: ‘The Love I Thought I’d Found’ and ‘Just What You Want – Just What You Get’. * Four singles for The Who’s label Track Records: ‘Desdemona’, the legendarily withdrawn ‘Midsummer Night's Scene’, ‘Come And Play With Me In The Garden’ and ‘Go-Go Girl’. * Their mock-live album Orgasm! which was belatedly issued on US label White Whale in 1970. * Andy Ellison’s subsequent solo singles ‘It's Been A Long Time’ (Track), ‘Fool From Upper Eden’ (CBS) and ‘You Can't Do That’ (SNB). * Three tracks by pre-John’s Children band The Silence. * A raft of rare and previously unissued alternative versions and mixes.

The 2-CD set has been compiled with help from Andy Ellison. Their manager Simon Napier-Bell will also be contributing to the detailed sleeve-notes, which are based around excerpts from Ellison’s yet-to-be-published autobiography.

Voice
Edda Dell'Orso is the sound of Italian cinema. Her astonishing voice recognisable to anyone who has experienced the landmark spaghetti western films made by Sergio Leone; films that were in the mid sixties scored by a young whippersnapper called Ennio Morricone. The recent revival of interest in mid-century post-modern art and the restoration of so many wonderful Morriconne scores has led many to discover Edda Dell'Orso. Her work is the epitome of intelligence and sophistication. It is utopian in its scope and its potential is vast.

The North Wind Blew South
Released on 14/02/10. One of the most mysterious albums of the late Sixties, British singer/songwriter Philamore Lincoln's US-only release The North Wind Blew South including his original version of Temma Harbour, a song that became a Top Ten hit for Mary Hopkin - has attracted plenty of conjecture over the years, much of it concerning the alleged involvement of the Yardbirds (Chris Dreja took the album photo, while Jimmy Page contributed a fierce lead guitar break to one of the standout tracks, You're The One ).

This first-ever official reissue of a much-counterfeited set finally sets the record straight about the elusive Mr. Lincoln and his highly convoluted musical history, which included previous pseudonymous stints as jazz drummer Phil Kinorra and blue-eyed soulster Julien Covey (whose A Little Bit Hurt single had been highly popular in Swinging London discotheques).

Everybody Shake - The Complete Recordings
Collapsed lungs, the Beatles in Hamburg, meeting Roy Orbison, singing with Tom Jones, African sticks, acting as Minder for Kenny Everett, smashing Pianos, a full on rock'n'roll lifestyle when The Who were still in nappies. Grant Tracy & The Sunsets were one of the rockingest and genuinely exciting British rock'n'roll bands of the early 60's. The fact that two members went on to form the acclaimed Honeybus (Pete Dello and Ray Cane) merely gilds the lily. It’s a fascinating story retold in full in our detailed packaging, with significant input from Pete Dello and Roy (Grant Tracy) Barker, including memorabilia from their archive. RPM collect together all their singles, released through Ember, Telefunken, Decca, plus the Ember LP and unreleased tracks from Pete Dellos sound archive, from 1961 - 1964. None of the recordings have made it to CD before. This collection includes the rock'n'roll instrumentals that showcased the Sunsets musical prowess, the Roy Orbison and Elvis vocal styling of Grant Tracy and the early songwriting talent of Pete Dello. A must collection for Rock'n'Roll fans, Instrumental fans, Pete Dello & Honeybus collectors. This is a first reissue and first time on CD. All the groups recordings are here in one brilliant package. 1st Floor
Following RPM International's Young Flowers anthology, which attracted national press coverage in their home country Denmark, we continue our programme of reissuing the best and most collectable Danish music.
1st Floor was Denmark’s Sergeant Pepper. English psychedelia found a home in Denmark in 1967 with The Floor, whose only album 1st Floor (Philips XPY 855701)comes close to The Hollies at their most whimsical and The Kinks at their most pastoral.
Before 1967, most of The Floor were in The Hitmakers, Denmark’s kings of beat pop. The summer of love arrived, they spilt and four-fifths picked up the pieces. A new guitarist was added.
‘Turn It On’ they sang, and they did. Flowers, drinking tea, hanging out with Mrs O’Grady and Mr Jones were central to 1st Floor. Beautifully and baroquely orchestrated, the album showcased a song, by future Abba member Bjorn Ulvaeus.
The first official reissue of this psychedelic pop rarity is re-mastered from the original tapes. The Floor's 1968 non album single is included as a bonus.

Sinker, Line & Hook - The Anthology 1987-99
Inspired by the best in 60s sounds (Mod, garage, pop-art, psychedelia freakbeat), The Aardvarks were formed in the mid-1980s in Ealing, West London, as part of the same scene which eventually reared Kula Shaker.
For many years, they were one of the most popular bands on the Mod and 60s Revival circuit, issuing a string of acclaimed 45s on labels such as Screaming Apple and Detour.
The Aardvarks’ 12-year lifespan is remembered on this compilation, built around their 1995 album for Delerium, Bargain, while also offering an equal number of choice tracks from elsewhere.
The ‘Varks tasted brief fame in the 90s, appearing on the James Whale TV Show and even supporting Bonnie Tyler!
