Black And Dekker - The Complete Stiff Recordings 1980 - 1982 - Desmond Dekker

Black And Dekker - The Complete Stiff Recordings 1980 - 1982

·A legend in Jamaican music, Desmond Dekker was the island’s first ‘outernational’ star, scoring huge hits in the late 60s with the likes of ‘007’, ‘It Mek’ and ‘Israelites’.

·This 2-CD set boasts all of Desmond’s recordings for Stiff between 1980 and 1982, including two albums plus stray B-sides and a brace of exclusive tracks from the rare ‘Hot City’ 12”. This was a successful period for Dekker, who enjoyed renewed popularity on the back of the 2 Tone movement.

·The majority of these recordings are currently unavailable on CD. In fact, the two albums have only been issued before as rare Japanese imports!

·Black And Dekker was self-produced with help from Vic Keary and Stiff boss Dave Robinson and engineered by the likes of Sid Bucknor (like Keary, a Trojan Records veteran). The album boasted reworkings of several of his classic 1960s singles. Also included here is ‘Juliet’, which was omitted from the UK/European edition.

The Wrong People
Furniture formed in Ealing, West London, 1979 by Jim Irvin, Tim Whelan and Hamilton Lee. They built up a strong following in and around London before bolstering their line up to include Sally Still and Maya Gilda. They released several independent singles through Survival Records before signing to Stiff Records in 1986. Best know for their 1986 single ‘Brilliant Mind' which has since featured on many compilations over the years. At the time of the ‘The Wrong People's' release Stiff Records went into liquidation with only having manufactured 30,000 vinyl copies and no CD. This vinyl has become a cult classic and very sought after over the years. The band eventually called it a day in 1992 with the various members going on to other projects. Jim Irvin fronted a keyboard/voice duo called ‘Because' before turning his hand to journalism, currently writing for Mojo. Tim and Hami formed Transglobal Underground who still record and tour today. This long overdue and debut CD release adds an additional nine bonus tracks. Pulling together b-sides and extended versions from their two singles off the album along with two unreleased demos from the bands own archive. Our Price: £9.95

Hurrah! signed to Arista via Kitchenware's deal with the major label, and the Tell God I'm Here album was re-released by the record company. In 1986, Hurrah! released their first major-label album and the single, "Sweet Sanity," in the UK and the US. Fellini Masterpieces: La Strada / Nights of Cabiria
The artistic partnership between film director Federico Fellini and composer Nino Rota was one of the most productive and enduring in cinema history. "La Strada" and "Nights of Cabiria" announced their arrival on the scene to an awestruck Italian and international public. Both movies won academy awards for "the best foreign language film"; establishing the style that would soon reach full expression with the renowned "La Dolce Vita".

These are the original mono soundtracks recorded in 1952 and 1956 respectively: the same recordings that are used on the films and both are long out of print in any format.

Should The World Fail To Fall Apart
Should the World Fail to Fall Apart is the first album by the British solo artist Peter Murphy, formerly of the gothic rock band Bauhaus. It was released in 1986, Should the World Fail to Fall Apart is a collection of singles written and recorded in 1986 with L. Howard Hughes with hopes of finding Peter a Post-Bauhaus identity other than the "Godfather of Goth”. The album displays a side of Peter Murphy rarely heard as the songs are very Romantic and out of the mainstream. The sounds are soft and orchestrated, the lyrics are poetic and deep, atmosphere is spacious, and the general tone is somber and reflective. This 2CD reissue of the Classic 1989 album comes with a second disc of bonus material, as well as new notes and enhanced booklet.

Press:-

"…expanded here with various 12” mixes and alternate cuts. ‘Should The World…’ saw Murphy stepping away from the moody theatrics that characterised his former band, aiming more for an intelligent contemporary pop vibe.”
