Shrine: Deluxe Edition - Dee C. Lee

Shrine: Deluxe Edition

· Singer Dee C. Lee enjoyed a prolific solo career in the mid-1980s in parallel to her role as a vocalist in The Style Council.

· Dee enjoyed huge success with the 60s-styled ballad ‘See The Day’, which reached No. 3 in late 1985.

· Her resulting debut album Shrine (1986) has long been out-of-print on CD and is now expanded with a whole bonus disc of non-album tracks.

· In addition to ‘See The Day’, the package also includes her minor hit ‘Come Hell Or Waters High’.

· Style Council/Paul Weller fans will enjoy the CD debut for Dee’s beautiful performance of ‘The Paris Match’ (credited to "The Council Quartet” and featuring Weller) and the live version of ‘Luck’ (which again boasted performances from Style Council members).

The Wrong People
Furniture formed in Ealing, West London, 1979 by Jim Irvin, Tim Whelan and Hamilton Lee. They built up a strong following in and around London before bolstering their line up to include Sally Still and Maya Gilda. They released several independent singles through Survival Records before signing to Stiff Records in 1986. Best know for their 1986 single ‘Brilliant Mind' which has since featured on many compilations over the years. At the time of the ‘The Wrong People's' release Stiff Records went into liquidation with only having manufactured 30,000 vinyl copies and no CD. This vinyl has become a cult classic and very sought after over the years. The band eventually called it a day in 1992 with the various members going on to other projects. Jim Irvin fronted a keyboard/voice duo called ‘Because' before turning his hand to journalism, currently writing for Mojo. Tim and Hami formed Transglobal Underground who still record and tour today. This long overdue and debut CD release adds an additional nine bonus tracks. Pulling together b-sides and extended versions from their two singles off the album along with two unreleased demos from the bands own archive. Our Price: £9.95

Hurrah! signed to Arista via Kitchenware's deal with the major label, and the Tell God I'm Here album was re-released by the record company. In 1986, Hurrah! released their first major-label album and the single, "Sweet Sanity," in the UK and the US. Hurrah's major label debut album, Tell God I'm Here, reached number 71 in 1987,In 1989, the band released their second major-label album, The Beautiful, This, the final re-issue in Cherry Red's acclaimed look at Hurrah! is the unreleased album, this is the first time it has ever been available on CD, it contains new artwork and detailed sleeve-notes by Classic Rock's Malcolm Dome who talks to founding member Paul Handyside about the album.

Yo Yo
Originally released in 1988, this multi million selling album hasn't been available for well over 10 years and contains the worldwide hit "I don't mind at All". Brent Bourgeois and Larry Tagg specialized in Beatlesque pop in the style of their apparent mentor Todd Rundgeren, whom produced this album "YoYo" and the worldwide hit "I Don't Mind At All" This album was originally released on Island records in 1987- their second and final release before splitting in the early 90s when Bourgeois and Tagg went on to record with bands such as REM, The Rembrandts, Duran Duran, Toad The Wet Sprocket and Til Tuesday! This is a collectable for every Rundgren fan and "I Don't Mind" is still regularly played on Capital Radio, Radio 2,Heart FM, and Magic FM - Yo Yo is one of the finest examples of 80s power pop! Shy Boy : The Complete Recordings 1967-1969
Kippington Lodge released five excellent singles on Parlophone Records between 1967 and 1969, yet they remain one of the least known English pop groups of the late sixties. This despite boasting a line-up that included Nick Lowe as well as Brinsley Schwarz and Bob Andrews (future members of Graham Parker & The Rumour) who would all find fame and in Lowe s case, fortune for their musical exploits in the decades to follow.Kippington Lodge have been afforded so little recognition that with the exception of having their singles crudely tacked on to a Brinsley Schwarz compilation CD in 1998 their output has never been presented and evaluated in the proper context. The group - whose first two singles were produced by famed EMI producer Mark Wirtz , including their contemporary version of the Keith West penned Shy Boy, today a regular on 60 s radio programmes - was a true creature of the sixties.

PRESS:-

"Only lead vocalist Schwartz himself features on the first two singles, the jaunty Shy Boy and the impossibly catchy Rumours – both the handiwork of producer Mark Wirtz, who also masterminded Keith West’s Top 10 hit Excerpt From A Teenage Opera.”

-Terry Staunton (Record Collector – October 2011)
