Foxy: Expanded Edition - Foxy

Foxy: Expanded Edition
· FOXY, formed in 1976 in Miami, Florida, were a Latin Dance/Disco group who joined the city’s famed T.K. Records stable as their house band after hit makers K.C. & The Sunshine Band left the label. Foxy consisted of Ish "Angel” Ledesma (vocals, guitar), Arnold Pasiero (bass), Richie Puente, Jr. (percussion), Charlie Murchiano (keyboards), and Joe Galdo (drums) and together they fused a Cuban influenced Latin dance sound with a Euro disco edge.

· Music fans would be forgiven for thinking that Get Off (CDBBR0241) was Foxy's debut album as it introduced them to the wider world with its title track reaching the coveted #1 spot on the R&B charts in 1978. However the harder, more rock and Latin influenced disco sound on Get Off had been preceded by the group’s eponymous debut for Dash Records in 1976.

· FOXY has a much smoother, slicker and less in your face sound then Get Off and as a result many of its tracks gained wide exposure on the dance floors while not producing a bone-fide crossover hit.

· The major club hit from the album, ‘Get Off Your Aahh! And Dance,’ did achieve a very respectable #39 R&B in April 1976 featuring a much lusher and glossier Euro influenced disco sound with a subtle Latin edge that is also present on cuts such as the opener ‘You Make Me Hot’ and closer ‘Let’s Love.’ ‘Baby I’m Leaving’ is the one example of a strictly Latin sound which has been likened to recordings by El Chicano and Jose Feliciano around that time.

· BBR is very proud to bring you FOXY, completely re-mastered and repackaged complete with extensive liner notes and extended bonus content.

· FOXY is a must have for all Disco, Funk, and Latin fans out there!

Open Sesame- Expanded Edition

Kool And The Gang needs no introduction. They were the top selling Soul group of the 80s and have sold over 70 million albums world wide and have received countless awards. Without them we would not have such great hits as Summer Madness, Get Down On It, Celebration and who could forget that slammin funk monster that featured so heavily in Quentin Tarantino's cult flick - Pulp Ficton; Jungle Boogie. Kool & The Gang was started by two brothers, Robert Kool Bell and Ronald Bell along with five friends in 1964. After some time playing the growing Jersey City Jazz coffeehouse scene and spots like Café Wha? in New York City, performing alongside other yet-to-be famous talents of the time, Kool & The Gang were signed to Redd Coach Records in 1968 and a year later were recording for the small subsidiary label, De-Lite Records. The 1970s was a busy and fruitful decade for the group, with Kool & The Gang, releasing twelve studio albums, two live albums and appearing on numerous occasions across the charts. 1976 saw Ricky Westfield leave the group to form his own band, North East South West, and would also mark the end of collaborations between the original seven members of KOOL & THE GANG. Later that year the group released Open Sesame which features the up-tempo single Superband which gained a top 20 R&B chart spot and the title track which reached #6 R&B and #55 on the US pop charts and soared to #13 on the Dance chart and was later featured in the soundtrack for Saturday Night Fever.

Born To Love
When Peabo Bryson and Roberta Flack teamed up in 1983 to record the Capitol album BORN TO LOVE, the pair had already experienced success as a duo thanks to the 1980 LP, Live & More (a Top 10 R&B best-selling album). By the time they headed into the studio to cut BORN TO LOVE, Bryson was six years into his recording career and had established himself as one of the premier black male vocalists of the day; Flack was already considered an internationally-renowned artist thanks to classic recordings such as ‘The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face’ and ‘Killing Me Softly With His Song.’
With tracks produced by songwriters Michael Masser, Bob Crewe and Bryson himself, BORN TO LOVE achieved gold status in the US as well as becoming both artists’ highest-charting international success. The impact of the now-classic single, ‘Tonight, I Celebrate My Love’ (co-written by Masser, then known for songs such as Diana Ross’ ‘Touch Me In The Morning’ and Natalie Cole’s ‘Someone That I Used To Love’ and Gerry Goffin) was global, reaching No. 2 on the UK charts, No. 10 in Australia, No. 4 in Canada and No. 16 in the US).
The album also included two other charted singles, ‘Maybe’ and ‘You’re Looking Like Love To Me’ while ‘Heaven Above Me’ got radio and club play in the UK.
This 2013 expanded edition of BORN TO LOVE includes three bonus tracks along with liner notes by Billboard Senior Editor, Gail Mitchell with new quotes from Roberta Flack.
