Tap Turns on the Water – The CCS Story 2CD
A BRAND NEW ANTHOLOGY BY THE LEGENDARY C.C.S. FEATURING THEIR COMPLETE RECORDINGS
NEWLY REMASTERED FROM THE ORIGINAL MASTER TAPES
BOOKLET WITH FULLY RESTORED ARTWORK & ESSAY
Esoteric Recordings are pleased to announce the release of a brand new 2CD deluxe anthology of the complete recordings by the legendary C.C.S.
Formed in 1970, C.C.S. (Collective Consciousness Society) was the brainchild of musician and arranger John Cameron, guitarist Alexis Korner (the father of British Blues) and producer MIckie Most. The group was initially conceived as a recording band only, but following the success of their legendary cover version of Led Zeppelin’s "Whole Lotta Love” (used as the theme for "Top of the Pops” for many years) and "Tap Turns on the Water”, the band also undertook live work.
C.C.S. featured the cream of jazz and blues talent such as flautist Harold McNair, bass players Herbie Flowers and Spike Heatley, sax players Tony Coe and Ron Ross, trumpet players Henry Lowther, Kenny Wheeler and Harold Beckett and drummers Barry Morgan and Tony Carr.
Between 1970 and 1973 C.C.S. released three albums and seven singles for RAK Records, with one album and four singles all reaching the UK Top Forty.
This Esoteric Recordings release has been newly remastered from the original master tapes and features all of the band’s recordings for RAK Records. The set also features an illustrated booklet with new essay.

Gun
Race With The Devil, reached the UK Top Ten in December 1968, it catapulted power trio the Gun from the bowels of the London underground club circuit to the forefront of the British pop scene. Released a couple of months later, the group s self-titled debut album boasted an equally dazzling, idiosyncratic combination of hard rock ferocity and striking orchestral arrangements, and it can now be seen as a major stepping stone in the gradual metamorphosis of late 60s psychedelic rock into what would become known as heavy metal. This newly re-mastered reissue features contemporaneous single releases, rare photos and fresh quotes from founder member Paul Gurvitz.

Perfect Timing
Florida native Donna Allen rose to fame following the release of her debut album PERFECT TIMING on New York based 21 Records in 1986. A born performer, Donna Allen was a cheerleader for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers before becoming a successful singer.

Taana Gardner
Taana Gardner was born in Newark, New Jersey and as a precocious young girl always knew she wanted to sing and perform. Influenced initially by her mother (who played piano in the Gardner home), and grandmother (who was an opera singer) Taana wrote several plays from the tender age of 11 and first appeared on stage as an actress in one of her own plays. One of her plays even went on to be performed at the Lincoln Center and The Apollo.
BBR favourite Dionne Warwick and also the great Tina Turner (amongst others) inspired Taana in terms of her singing aspirations and in 1978 the brother of Kenton Nix turned him on to Taana and suggested her for the project he was working on with West End records. When Taana arrived for her first ever studio session there was another group using the studio who, after hearing Taana sing, invited her to contribute vocals to one of their tracks. That group was Kid Creole and the Coconuts recording the album ‘Spooks In Space’ under the name Aural Exciters for the US market, on which Taana became the lead vocalist. A classic case of right place, right time.
TAANA GARDNER, was the product of the West End records sessions with producer Kenton Nix which she had been initially lined up for. Nix had been championed to the label by legendary DJ Larry Levan who had already been spinning an instrumental version of Work That Body in his Paradise Garage sets. ‘Work That Body’ (Disco #10) became a big club hit…. So Nix recorded more tracks with Taana including ‘When You Touch Me’ (Disco #10), included on this album, and what has become West End’s biggest ever hit, ‘Heartbeat’, (R&B #10) the classic mid-tempo groover worshipped by Larry Levan, two versions of which are represented on this release amongst the many bonus tracks.
BBR is very proud to bring you TAANA GARDNER, completely re-mastered and repackaged complete with extensive liner notes and extended bonus content.
TAANA GARDNER is a must have for all Soul and Disco fans out there!

Disco Kicks The Complete Moby Discks Recordings 2CD
Arriving at the tail end of the disco era The Boys Town Gang, somewhat belatedly summed up everything daring and subversive that the golden age of dance had been known for. The brainchild of San Franciscan DJ/producer Bill Motley, the Boys Town Gang were a hastily assembled fictitious group in the classic industry mould of Shalamar.
The group’s first release contained two tracks that instantly became underground club classics. A disco-fied medley of the two early solo Diana Ross hits ‘Ain’t No Mountain High Enough’ and ‘Remember Me’ immediately opened doors for the group when it appeared on DJ set lists all over the USA in 1981. But the powerhouse track turned out to be on the flipside. ‘Cruisin’ The Streets’ had a new sound that set it apart from any disco record before it. With lead vocals by Cynthia Manley the song was overtly sexual and homoerotic.
When ‘Cruisin’ The Streets’ became a massive international club hit a permanent group was formed featuring vocalist Jackson Moore replacing Manley. The newly formed trio’s biggest hit was their disco-fied cover of the Andy Williams hit ‘Can’t Take My Eyes Off You’ which landed them a top ten UK hit in 1982.
Further disco and Hi-NRG covers of soul classics such as ‘Signed, Sealed, Delivered, I’m Yours’ and ‘When Will I See You Again’ gave the group several club hits in the early to mid 1980’s.
HOT SHOT RECORDS is very proud to present the first ever complete anthology of THE BOYS TOWN GANG where the original Moby Dick records have been used.
Released as a double CD collection with slip case, this anthology is a must for all 80’s Pop, Disco and Hi-NRG fans.

The O’Jays In Philadelphia
THE O'JAYS were formed by five high school friends in 1958 who after seeing Frankie Lymon and The Teenagers perform, were inspired to start a vocal group. They spent time on various labels and released some fairly successful singles on Imperial Records working with H.B. Barnum and also Gamble & Huff, who were working as a production team for Neptune Records. THE O’JAYS IN PHILADELPHIA was the group’s only studio album to be released on Neptune Records in 1970.The title refers to the beginning of their association with Philly's R&B scene and producers/songwriters Kenny Gamble&Leon Huff. This album heralded a long run of success and one of the most fruitful partnerships in the history of soul music with The O’Jays becoming the biggest act on Gamble and Huff’s legendary Philadelphia International Records imprint throughout the 70’s when the label released the "Back Stabbers” album in 1972 (CDBBR0051). THE O’JAYS IN PHILADELPHIA starts with the amazing ‘One Night Affair’. The song was released as a single in the summer of ’69 reached #15 R&B. The track has an up-tempo propulsive groove backed up with lush strings and horns to compliment the gritty gospel influenced vocal from Eddie Levert as he pleads for a night of passion with no strings attached. The second single was ‘Branded Bad’ (R&B #41), a quintessential Gamble/Huff production with some great instrumentation including a crunching organ motif towards the end. ‘Deeper (In Love With You)’ (R&B #21), the third single, is a swinging soul track in the 60’s style with a demanding ‘walking’ bass line and a very danceable track. Single number four, ‘Looky Looky (Look At Me Girl)’ (R&B #17) is another energetic up-tempo soul track with the group pleading for attention from the fairer sex. Other standout tracks are the stunning ballad ‘Let Me In To Your World’ and the mid-tempo groovers ‘You’re The Best Thing Since Candy’ and ‘I Should Be Your Lover’. BBR is very proud to present THE O’JAYS IN PHILADELPHIA, expertly re-mastered and complete with extensive liner notes and the album’s original art work on CD for the first time. THE O’JAYS IN PHILADELPHIA is absolutely essential listening for all R&B and Soul fans, especially those who champion the Philly Sound!
