Rock And Roll Animals - Luke Haines

Rock And Roll Animals
Cherry Red Records is delighted to release the brand new solo album from Luke Haines (The Servants, The Auteurs, Baader Meinhof& Black Box Recorder).
Rock N Roll Animals is a psychedelic story for grown-ups (and children). Jimmy Pursey is a frisky fox; Nick Lowe – a solid badger and Gene Vincent – a cat who's seen a bit more of life than most of us. Three furry freaks. Three Rock n Roll animals. The fable of our four-pawed shamen is narrated by the good folk of Magic Town.
This is a story of righteous rock n roll and how our three rock n roll animal friends, when not frolicking in the undergrowth, do battle with their most unrighteous nemesis – a fuck ugly bird (from Tyneside) made of steel and wire called The Angel Of The North.
The album will be preceded by a 7” single of the title track with two exclusive non-album B-Sides on 15th July. The album will also be released on limited edition 12” vinyl.
The album will coincide with the selected UK cinema release of the feature-length documentary film ‘Art Will Save The World’ about Luke Haines by Niall McCann.

Folktronic
What if computers finally began getting more Africa in them? What if folk artists started emerging who sounded more post-modern than Cornelius or Pole? What would Click Folk or Glitch Folk sound like? What would Alan Lomax have said if, in 1965, the Newport Folk Festival had been invaded by boffins and geeks playing modular Moogs? What if you could hear, today, the Country Music of the year 2049? What about the Japanese country music of 2049? What would that sound like? What if electronics had appeared in 18th Century Scotland just at the moment of the Highland Clearances? How many mountains can you fit on a Minidisc? It's what Raymond Scott, Bruce Haack or Gary Numan might have sounded like if they'd jammed their way through the back catalogue of Steeleye Span. It's Shakespeare rendered in Flash 5 by a superlucid hyperactive Japanese geek. It's those prolific medieval songwriters Trad. and Anon. finding the missing link between unicorns and Unix. It's preposterous, provocative and prescient

The Best Of
The original Creation band....once again dear friends, we give you....Biff Bang Pow!.....Led by Creation Records founders Alan McGee and Dick Green through a dizzying range of styles in their time, from Psychedelia to the further shores of Neil Young, with a line-up that at various times included Andrew Innes, Joe Foster, Ed Ball, Phillip King and many other reprobates who should have been in jail long ago, (most of the presidents men in fact) the works of Biff Bang Pow! span the Creation years from Living Room to drug psychosis, from scrabbling around to success, with an ease that's almost unnatural....and they had some damn fine tunes too, despite Alan and Dick's self-depracating nonsense....and there are a fine selection here! Brothers and sisters, the only band on Creation Records who never worried about being dropped, Biff Bang Pow! *Band approved compilation of their finest moments *From the original masters *A must for Creation Records and Indie collectors Our Price: £9.95

Small Time / Hey Hey We’re The Manqués 2CD

Formed in the mid ‘80s, The Servants was a vehicle for songwriter David Westlake. The band was included on the NME's C86 compilation, and by 1987 future Auteur Luke Haines had joined on guitar. Their debut album, "Disinterest”, was released in 1989, and they began to work on a follow-up, "Small Time”, before disbanding in the early 1990s.
Previously unreleased, and unheard by anyone outside of the band, ‘Small Time’ is the Servants' lost second album – "the best album… a strange and wonderful thing,” according to Haines in his sleeve-notes. In his book ‘Bad Vibes’, Haines describes the band’s first album, "Disinterest”, as 'existential art rock , ten years too late and fifteen years too early’. The songs on ‘Small Time’, he says are 'more mysterious, strange and beautiful, transcending their influence and sounding like nothing else.'
CD TWO of this set – "Hey Hey We’re The Manqués” – includes rehearsal versions of songs from "Disinterest”, taped before the album was recorded. "Disinterest” was recently included in MOJO magazine's list of 'the greatest British indie records of all time.'
Compiled and mastered by David Westlake, with sleeve-notes by Luke Haines, this set has been produced with the full involvement and approval of the artists and is a must-hear for anybody with an interest in adventurous, ethereal alternative pop.

You Didn’t Like It Because You Didn’t Think Of It, The Complete Sessions 1970-71
· Thanks to the novelty hit nature of the million-selling forty-five ‘Neanderthal Man’ (only prevented from topping the British singles chart in the summer of 1970 by Elvis Presley’s ‘The Wonder Of You’), little attention was paid at the time to the other recordings cut by pre-10cc act Hotlegs.
· That’s a shame, because the album Hotlegs Thinks: School Stinks (quickly remodelled and repackaged as Song) was a veritable smorgasbord of turn-of-the-decade studio pop moves that deserves to be considered alongside the heavyweights of the era. With its roots in the aborted 1969 Frabjoy & Runcible Spoon (aka Kevin Godley & Lol Creme) album for Giorgio Gomelsky’s Marmalade label, the Hotlegs LP was a daringly ambitious creation, peaking on the White Album-era McCartneyish ballads ‘Take Me Back’ and ‘Today’, the equally beautiful, Beach Boys-inspired ‘All God’s Children’ and the sumptuous, 13 minute song suite ‘On My Way/Indecision/The Return’ ("our version of Side Two of Abbey Road”, according to Godley).
· Housed in newly-commissioned, more sympathetic artwork, and featuring a new essay on the band, this definitive Hotlegs anthology reassesses their position in the overall scheme of things. Gathering together every track issued in the group’s name, including both versions of the album, a couple of non-LP singles and even a US-only remix of The Hit, You Didn’t Like It Because You Didn’t Think Of It reveals that, notwithstanding that anomalous novelty song, Lol Creme, Kevin Godley and Eric Stewart were master pop craftsmen even before adding Graham Gouldman to the line-up and changing their name to 10cc...
