If You Could Read My Mind - Viola Wills

If You Could Read My Mind
Viola Wills was originally a session vocalist on sides that Barry White produced for Bob Keane's Bronco/Mustang labels. In 1965, White signed Wills to Bronco as a solo artist. She recorded several sides for the label; all failed to chart. It would take another decade before Viola would chart a hit.
In 1979, while signed to the Ariola/Hansa label, Wills enjoyed her biggest hit with a disco version of Patience and Prudence's 1957 hit ‘GONNA GET ALONG WITHOUT YOU NOW.’ Recording in an up-tempo Disco/Hi-NRG style, Wills scored dancefloor hits with Gordon Lightfoot’s ‘IF YOU COULD READ MY MIND’ and Carole King & Gerry Goffin’s ‘UP ON THE ROOF.’ IF YOU COULD READ MY MIND became her first Ariola album release in 1980.
Cherry Pop is proud to release the first ever CD version of Viola’s album IF YOU COULD READ MY MIND expertly remastered and complete with liner notes and bonus tracks. It is essential listening for all Hi-NRG, Disco and ‘80s Pop fans out there!

The Three Degrees-Expanded Edition
The Three Degrees' Philadelphia International Records debut made quite an impact upon it's release in 1974.

Having been R&B hit makers for years, the group were no strangers to the American Soul Chart but the pairing of the group with Philadelphia's Gamble & Huff took them to an iconic level of appreciation. The top 20 album spawned the now classic UK #1 When Will I See You Again and the top 20 hit Year Of Decision. Also featured was their Philly debut single Dirty Ol' Man which topped the charts in the Netherlands, staving off the threat of Demis Roussos in the process!

DonÆt Let It Die - Very Best Of
Released 27/11/08. Norman Smith Hurricane Smith or Normal to John Lennon. Producer and Engineer to both the Beatles and Pink Floyd. A legend in the industry and a performer of a number of hits in his own right. Don’t Let it Die was a massive hit and won him an Ivor Novello award, this after The Beatles may or may not have turned it down because it was a little too complicated for Ringo to sing. His style was varied, from the vaudeville of his youth to more contemporary influences of the late 60’s and early 70’s. This compilation brings together his first two albums Don’t Let it Die and Hurricane Smith and includes the singles Don t Let it Die , Oh Babe What Would You Say?, Who Was It? and My Mother Was Her Name . The Shacklefords Sing
Released 24/11/08. This phenomenon probably should be filed under forgotten enigmas of the '60s. The crudely rendered Lichtensteinesque comic strip on the album cover tries to help out by explaining that The Shacklefords consist of three men and a girl, they like to be perceived as a sound rather than a group, and they don't want to be confused with Norwegian fjords. Right. OK. The Shacklefords are kind of like The Art of Noise avant la lettre; there's a mystifying aura regarding the lineup of the band, and exactly what it's all about. Perhaps The Shacklefords would have remained forgotten if it hadn't been for the renewed appreciation of their producer, the amazing Lee Hazlewood. Helmed by Hazlewood's associate, the prolific Marty Cooper (an American pop missing link involved with everyone from Jennifer Warnes to Them!), The Shacklefords sounds is a missing link in American vocal groups. These "adventures in song with Capitol's super singing group," thankfully offer more than just another rarity for Hazlewood addicts. The marvelous Shacklefords sound is a treat for collectors of the unknown and the under-appreciated. A treat for fans of 1960's vocal groups, and a key piece in the legend and enigma of Lee Hazlewood. Our Price: £9.95

Vicious Pink
The long overdue first UK release of the influential 80's synth techno pop duo Vicious Pink and their self titled album plus bonus tracks.
The album was originally released internationally in 1986 but it has never been available in the UK and it’s the first time on CD worldwide.
The CD features the nine tracks of the original album release and seven bonus tracks taken from the band's four singles during their spell with Parlophone.
'CCCan't You See' reached the top 30 in the US pop chart in 1987.
The bonus tracks include four versions of the band's best known single 'CCCan't You See' - French Extended Mix, Re-mixx, 7" Version and 7" DJ Mix/Master Mix. It also features their 'Fetish' single - Extended Mix and the band's final single 'Take Me Now' - Extended Mix and it's 12" B/side 'I Confess' from 1985.
This release has been made with the full co-operation of Brian Moss - one half of Vicious Pink. Brian has supplied rare photographs, press cuttings, gig flyers for inclusion within the CD booklet. Brian Moss has written sleeve notes for the album.
The CD booklet features many of the original sleeves + full UK discography.

Vicious Pink - Brian Moss and Josephine Warden hail from Leeds and emerged from the vibrant local music scene in the early 1980's. The duo started as backing vocalists for Soft Cell. The band's first guise was as Vicious Pink Phenomenon. The band released two singles 'My Private Tokyo' on the Mobile Suit Corporation (Phonogram) in 1982 and 'Je T'Aime' on Warehouse Records in 1983 resulting in a major record deal with Parlophone Records. The band shortened their name and went on to record with respected producer Tony Mansfield. The band released 4 singles with 'CCCan't You See' enjoying a 2nd release in 1985 after its original release in 1984. The band enjoyed cult status rather than commercial success. The band made music for the clubs and enjoyed widespread support on dance-floors either side of the Atlantic. This seminal collection of the band's work is a great example of the emerging electronic movement within the UK in the early 1980's.

Loleatta
Loleatta Holloway was a dance music legend. Her amazing vocal talents gained her the reputation as one of the premier vocalists of soul and dance. Loleatta unfortunately passed away in March 2011. Loleatta started singing with Queen of Gospel, Albertina Walker and the Caravans. She released her first single "Rainbow ‘71” on the fledgling Apache label before moving to Aware to record her first two albums prior to her work with Salsoul.
LOLEATTA was her first album for Gold Mind/Salsoul Records and was released in 1976. WORN OUT BROKEN HEART was released as the album’s first single and made #25 R&B. Its B-Side was DREAMIN’, an underground club hit when initially released. DREAMIN’ later became one of Salsoul’s key tracks and has often been remixed, most notably in 200 when it topped the Billboard Dance chart. HIT AND RUN was the album’s second single and another Salsoul classic. It was a #11 Disco hit when released.
LOLEATTA also features WE’RE GETTING STRONGER which was sampled by Whitney Houston on her Million Dollar Bill single as well as the Curtis Mayfield penned song WHAT NOW. Loleatta was responsible for providing the vocals for dance classics Love Sensation and Relight My Fire (Dan Hartman) as well as the UK #1 hit by Black Box, Ride On Time.
Released in deluxe Super Jewel cases, with bonus tracks LOLEATTA is a must for all Soul and Funk fans out there and a very welcome addition to our collection of Salsoul reissues!
