Love Songs & Other Tragedies - G.C. Cameron

Love Songs & Other Tragedies
SoulMusic Records is continuing its’ much-acclaimed series of original Motown album reissues (which includes titles by The Dynamic Superiors, Tata Vega, Syreeta, Thelma Houston and Jerry Butler) with the release of the much-anticipated LOVE SONGS & OTHER TRAGEDIES, the 1974 solo LP set by G.C. Cameron, the former lead singer of The Spinners during their Motown years from 1967-1971.
Previously only available as a Japanese CD, this expanded edition is particularly in-demand by Motown and soul music lovers worldwide since it includes ‘A’ and ‘B’ sides of all eight of G.C.’s MoWest singles plus four non-album Motown tracks released as singles, a total of twenty-three glorious sides by the Mississippi-born singer/songwriter and producer, most on CD for the first time.
G.C.’s tenure with The Spinners included singing lead on their biggest Motown hit, the 1970 Stevie Wonder-penned and produced, now-classic ‘It’s A Shame.’ When the group went to Atlantic, G.C. began recording for MoWest with Motown founder Berry Gordy Jr. serving as executive producer on a number of the singles G.C. recorded for the label. Other producers included Willie Hutch, Smokey Robinson, Pam Sawyer & Gloria Jones and G.C. himself.
LOVE SONGS & OTHER TRAGEDIES includes production by Stevie Wonder (‘If You Don’t Love Me’) and Frank Wilson (‘Riverboat’) with Marvin Gaye doing the vocal arrangement for ‘Tippin.’’ This expanded edition features stellar notes by renowned U.S.writer Kevin Goins including a new interview with G.C. and quotes from producers, songwriters and engineers involved.

Together
When Rock Your Baby took the global charts by storm in the summer of 1974, it brought wide recognition to T.K Records and instant acclaim for George McCrae. His wife Gwen, who had already tasted chart success on Columbia in 1970, joined him in Henry Stone s Miami empire, and her 1975 hit with Rockin Chair prompted Stone to record the couple on an album of duets.
Together was an obvious title, and Winners Together Losers Apart , an appropriate hit 45 in spring 1976. This release also features special bonus solo tracks by George, including I Ain’t Lyin / You Got to Know , an in-demand US and UK hit 45 from 1975, the collectable Everytime You Say Goodbye from 1984, and club hit Do Something from 1995.

The Dynamic Superiors / Pure
The third release from Soul Music.com Records new association with Cherry Red features a coupling of two Motown albums by 70s soul group The Dynamic SuperiorsThis release marks the first time complete Motown albums are beingreleased on a Cherry Red-associated label Based in Washington DC, The Dynamic Superiors(Tony Washington, Maurice Washington, George Spann, George Peterbark and Michael Maccalphin) spent several years performing before being signed to Motown in 1974 by then-label president Ewart Abner "The group s first two albums, The Dynamic Superiors and Pure Pleasure, both released in 1975 were produced by the hitmaking husband-and-wife team of Nick Ashford & Valerie Simpson (artists in their own right, best known for Motown work with Diana Ross and Marvin Gaye & Tammi Terrell among others)." The Dynamic Superiors were no strangers to controversy: lead singer Tony Washington was openly gay and seemingly, the first openly gay black recording artist, predating Sylvester and Carl Bean by a number of years.Washington sometimes performed in drag onstage, drawing a positive response from audiences when the group toured with the likes of Stevie Wonder and The Jackson 5 in the U.S. The group s self-titled Motown debut included the now-classic Shoe Shoe Shine, a Top 20 US R&B hit and the follow-up, Leave It Alone which reached No. 13 on the US R&B charts as well as the Ashford & Simpson chestnut, Don t Send Nobody Else (also recorded by Millie Jackson and Ace Spectrum). The second LP, Pure Pleasure included the dance hit, Face The Music, a Top 10 disco hit in 1975.

Winners- Expanded Edition
Guitarist, George Johnson and Bassist, Louis Johnson became two of the most in demand session players in early seventies Los Angeles, backing the likes of Bobby Womack, Billy Preston and The Supremes. They soon came to the attention of the legendary Quincy Jones, who produced the duos first four albums, all of which went Platinum.

The Brothers Johnson came to define the uptown funk of the late seventies with hits like I ll Be Good To You, Get the Funk Outta My Face, Runnin For Your Lovin and Strawberry Letter #23.

Fresh from their international 1980 smash hit, Stomp, the duo released their fifth album in 1981. Quincy Jones had just left A&M Records and was unavailable for production duties but the Brothers Johnson were confident that they had learned enough from their mentor and proved it by producing their own masterpiece with WINNERS.

Featuring the R&B hits The Real Thing and Dancing Free, BBR is proud to present this wonderfully repackaged expanded edition of WINNERS complete with extensive liner notes with a brand new interview with George Johnson. Bonus tracks are taken from Blast!, the bands 1982 Hits collections including the hit, Welcome To The Club.
