Everything’s Shining Bright, the Lazy Recordings 1985-87 2CD - Primitives (The)

Everything’s Shining Bright, the Lazy Recordings 1985-87 2CD

(PLEASE NOTE ALL SIGNED COPIES ARE NOW SOLD OUT!!)

Back in the mid-80s, The Primitives combined the fuzz guitars of The Jesus & Mary Chain with the pop sensibilities of Blondie and a nod to cult heroes The Velvet Underground. They swiftly rose from being a popular Indie guitar outfit to charting worldwide with "Crash”, kickstarting a craze in bands fronted by blonde female singers (Transvision Vamp, The Darling Buds et al).
Between 1985 and 1987, the band issued five singles/EP’s on independent label Lazy Records (also home to My Bloody Valentine and later Birdland) before signing with RCA.
Everything’s Shining Bright is named after their planned Lazy Records album, which was abandoned when the band left the label – indeed, seven of the ten previously unissued tracks here stem from those scotched LP sessions. Also unearthed is the band’s very first demo from 1985, consisting of three tracks including a dry-run through their eventual hit "Crash”.
This 2-CD set also boasts their promo-only live album at the ICA; as such, it offers their entire Lazy output from that period.
Those Lazy singles in full:
Thru The Flowers (May 1986) Indie No.20
Really Stupid (October 1986) Indie No.3
Stop Killing Me (February 1987) Indie No.2
Thru The Flowers (New Version - August 1987) Indie No.3
Ocean Blue (gig freebie 7”)
Compiled with guitarist PJ Court, this 2-CD compilation boasts re-mastered music as well as a beautifully annotated booklet boasting rare photos and personal memories from the band.

Release Date: 25/03/2013

Independence Days - The Story of UK Independent Record Labels
Even by the standards of Alex Ogg’s previous work (The Hip Hop Years, No More Heroes etc), Independence Days is an exhaustive undertaking. Collating more than 150 interviews, it traces the story of the UK independent record label boom from the late 70s to the mid-80s, a period which saw a new generation of independent spirits take up the baton and revolutionise the course of popular music. Independence Days cover the era’s most celebrated labels including Rough Trade, Beggars Banquet/4AD, Factory, Cherry Red and Mute, and covers releases by notable acts such as The Smiths, Joy Division, The Buzzcocks, Elvis Costello, New Order, Depeche Mode, Erasure, Echo & The Bunnymen, Gary Numan, Teardrop Explodes, Nick Cave, KLF etc. There is also extensive coverage of a myriad of less familiar labels and their unique stories, revealing a fabulous, almost Shakespearean cast of characters along the way, simultaneously profiling their achievements and contributions. From the budget, DIY ethic beloved of many labels and their audiences to the grandiose packaging of Factory and 4AD and eventual chart dominance of Depeche Mode and New Order, all the key moments are documented through painstaking research, analysis and eyewitness accounts. Scheming, rivalries and fiscal brinkmanship contrast with the optimism and opportunism - and incredible diversity of music - of a decade when anything seemed possible. Interviewees include: Geoff Travis, Daniel Miller, Ivo Watts-Russell, Dave Robinson, Ted Carroll, Bill Drummond, Roger Armstrong, Penny Rimbaud, Richard Boon, Martin Mills, Richard Scott, Iain McNay, Mike Stone, Mike Alway, Bob Last, Terri Hooley, Bill Gilliam, Charlie Gillett, Miles Copeland, Seymour Stein and Geoff Davies among others.

Indie Hits 1980 - 1989
Indie Hits is the first and only complete guide to the first decade of Britain's Independent records chart, and to the acts, the music and the labels which made up the Indie scene of the 1980's. The book is set out in a similar format to the Guinness Hit Singles and Albums books, with every artist, single and album to have shown in the indie charts over the 10 year period being detailed.

The first Independent charts were published by the trade paper Record Business in January 1980, by which time they were well overdue. By that time, Mute Graduate, Factory, Crass, Safari and Rough Trade were just a few of the new breed of rapidly expanding labels already scoring hit records. They were producing acts like Depeche Mode, UB40, Toyah, The Cult, Joy Division and Stiff Little Fingers, all to become major international sellers. Later years brought the likes of the Smiths, New Order, Erasure, The Stone Roses, James, The Fall and Happy Mondays (not to mention Kylie and Jason!) - all successful and influential independently -distributed hitmakers.

The A-Z section details every chartmaking 1980s indie act and all hit records in a detailed but easy to reference format. Also included are complete indexes of single and album titles, an authoritative history of the origin and development of the Indie charts during the 1980's, listings of all No 1 singles and albums with illustrations of rare original sleeves, print ads and other memorabilia of the period plus a fax 'n' trivia section including the artists and labels with the most chart records, the most No 1's and the longest chart stays. If it was in the indie charts of the 1980's - It's in here!

Blind EXPANDED EDITION
As early as the Icicle Works' second album, it became obvious that singer/songwriter Ian McNabb had little interest in further pursuing his career as a new wave tunesmith in the manner of his only U.K. hit, Love Is a Wonderful Colour.

Still, stylistic nods to Neil Young, Van Morrison, and Motown on post-1984 recordings could have hardly prepared the casual Icicle Works fan for the all-over-the-map musical journey that represented the original line up's fourth and final album, Blind. There's not even a hint of new wave on this record; beginning with a full-on Led Zeppelin-style rave up ( Shit Creek ), Blind then proceeds to careen wildly through several anthemic folk-rockers ( Here Comes Trouble, Starry Blue Eyed Wonder ), a Caribbean-style pop tune ( What Do You Want Me to Do ), a Prince-meets-INXS lite-funk workout ( The KissOff ), a raunchy blues-metal parody that even Zodiac Mindwarp might have found too over the top ( Two Two Three ).

Blind contains some of the Icicle Works' best individual tracks, including the singles High Time and Little Girl Lost. This 3-CD reissue-set contains 2 discs of rare and unreleased material in addition to the original album and also features updated booklets and notes by Classic Rock’s Jerry Ewing.
