The Brilliant Corners might just have been the best band out of Bristol during the 1980s.

Taking their name from a Thelonious Monk jazz album, they issued ten singles, five albums and various compilations between 1983 and 1993. Many of them made the Indie Chart, from early efforts with hints of psychobilly and The Cramps to more melodic, C86-flavoured tracks (think The Smiths and The Housemartins) and later tracks with a hint of shoegazer and baggy about them.

In Davey Woodward, The Brilliant Corners were fronted by a handsome, charismatic singer who was also a talented songwriter – and Davey’s cooperated with this long-overdue anthology, helping with the track listing and supplying the entertaining sleeve-notes.

HEART ON YOUR SLEEVE is the most authoritative Brilliant Corners collection to date, boasting all their singles on the SS20 and McQueen labels plus numerous tracks which have never before been on CD and a handful of previously unissued demos and live tracks.

Art And Voices
		Os Cariocas, a fresh new sound from Brazil the first vocal quartet blending bossa-nova rhythms and melodies with modern jazz harmonies Quincy Jones. Os Cariocas were formed in 1942 by brothers Ismael Neto and Severino Filho, and distinguished by their ambitious and elaborate vocal arrangements for four or five voices, that combined polyphony and rhythmic effects. They became the most representative vocal group of bossa nova after their 1957 recording of "Chega de Saudade"; being one of the first recordings of this Tom Jobim / Vinicius de Moraes masterpiece that would eventually be the one that started it all for João Gilberto, the song that would change forever Brazil's musical landscape. Its dazzling arrangement apart, the Os Cariocas version is noteable for the appearance of Gilberto himself on guitar. Because their guitarist Badeco couldn t duplicate the bossa beat, João volunteered to sit in at the recording and play anonymously. For Os Cariocas, the bossa nova phase was their second one, lasting between 1957 and 1967, when the group was disbanded. Their first phase included two decades broadcasting for Radio Nacional do Rio de Janeiro, and their 1948 debuts "Nova Ilusão" and "Adeus América" (later rerecorded by João Gilberto and remaining one of his classics), on which they mock American musical institutions of the day. Effervescent songbird Jane Weaver once again takes flight this Spring with this spellbinding collection of heartrending recordings. Having spent that past year residing under an apple tree on the outer limits of Greater Manchester putting the finishing touches to her new album immersed in the sounds of Linda Perhacs, Karen Dalton, Josephine Foster, These Trails and The Pink Fairies, the past few months have seen Jane travel over hill and over dale by special request to make a handful of rare live appearances across the UK and US alongside the likes of Voice Of The Seven Woods, Gruff Rhys (Super Furry Animals), Wendy Flower (Wendy & Bonnie), and most recently Josephine Foster.

Jane Weaver is a rare creature in the vanity-stricken world of female singers, and perhaps with a more generous roll of the dice we might all have heard of her. Serving her apprenticeship in the mid-nineties girl-guitar-pop outfit Kill Laura, Jane would go on to front Twisted Nerve's Misty Dixon and release her critically acclaimed solo mini-album, 'Like An Aspen Leaf', as well as recording a slew of singles with the help of Doves and an album for Mancunian music maverick Rob Gretton's Manchester Records which went unreleased following his death until Jane dusted down the tapes and released it through her very own Bird imprint.

'Cherlokalate' is the highly anticipated follow up to last years critically acclaimed debut album proper, 'Seven Day Smile' (2EGGS). Stripped back and laid bare, Jane's songwriting has moved from strength to strength and her dulcet tones have lost none of their potency. Jane's quiet riot continues unabashed as word spreads of her unassuming but bewitching talent.

Escape Artist
		Available for the first time on CD in the UK, is an excellent reissue of Garland Jeffreys 1981 album. Garland Jeffreys is a unique performer, whose albums boast a ‘who is who’ of American musicians from the 1980's, confirming his credibility within the artistic community. Featured musicans on this album include, Lou Reed, Linton Kwesi Johnson, David Johansen and Nona Hendryx. The album is co-produced by Garland Jeffreys and legendary US record producer, Bob Clearmountain. The CD features 7 bonus tracks, 4 of which are taken from the American CD reissue of the album, plus re-mastered versions of the 1981 single '96 Tears / Escape Goat Dub', finished off with the seminal track 'Hail Hail Rock 'N' Roll'. Foolish Seasons
		Dana Gillespie was a music lover from an early age: "I discovered the blues when I went to the American Folk Blues Festival in 1962 and also to see the Yardbirds at the Marquee Club. I was in my early teens and hadn't heard anything like it before." In 1964 she recorded her first single for Pye, with Donovan on guitar and became a regular on the folk circuit along with friends Donovan and David Bowie. She recalls: "I was doing folk because I couldn't afford a band and I hadn't found my musical niche". In those early years Dana got to know many of the top bands and people in the music business, appearing on Ready Steady Go and other cool TV shows of the era along with the legends of the British pop explosion. In 1967, she made this album, Foolish Seasons, a Psychpop/Swinging London/Folkrock masterpiece. Featuring the rare Donovan song, "You Just Gotta Know My Mind," which should have been a smash mod hit, (and also includes the guitar of JIMMY PAGE!!!), and two fantastic Billy Nicholls covers from his much celebrated and legendary Psych/Softpop gem, 'Would You Believe.' Arranged by the great Mike Vickers and produced by Wayne Bickerton (World of Oz, Jackie Lomax, Pete Best Four, The Rubettes), this is one of THE great missing links of 1960s pop....Dana was to make one more album for Decca, morphing seamlessly into a more blues based style, before becoming a star of London's West End theatre: the first run of Jesus Christ Superstar (playing Mary Magdalene), The Who's "Tommy" (playing the Acid Queen) and the rock Othello, "Catch My Soul". She also appeared with Peter Cook, Dudley Moore and Kenneth Willams in the film "The Hound Of The Baskervilles" and starred in Ken Russell's "Mahler". A number of roles in latter-day Hammer films and more experimental arthouse movies are also fondly remembered. As a singer she moved to RCA Records and made ‘Weren’t Born A Man’ and ‘Ain’t Gonna Play No Second Fiddle’, under the aegis of David Bowie, whose management, Mainman, also took care of her career. A period in the US was spectacularly ended when Bob Dylan invited her to appear on his 1997 UK tour. Dana continues recording recording successfully today, specialising in her first love, emotionally expressive blues music. This sumptious reissue of her classic first album is LONG overdue!!
