Mighty Mighty were a popular Indie guitar pop combo hailing
from Birmingham, who made their name as part of the so-called C86 scene
championed by the NME on their famous cassette.
Between 1986 and 1988, the band issued six singles/EP’s
and an album, all of which made the Indie Chart courtesy of their evocative mix
of naggingly hummable tunes, poignant lyrics and a musical style which
suggested a love of both The Smiths and Postcard-era Orange Juice.
After rave reviews for their first two singles, Everybody Knows The
Monkey and Is There Anyone Out There?, Mighty Mighty signed to local label
Chapter 22 (then home to Pop Will Eat Itself, etc.), eventually issuing their
sole LP Sharks in 1988.
Pop Can! (the title doesn’t appear on the sleeve, a nod to Andy Warhol
and the Velvet Underground!) is the first comprehensive compilation of Mighty
Mighty’s recordings. Previous CDs are now impossible to find!

Life Goes On |

|
True heroes of the underground certainly the Scottish music underground defiantly of the Bellshill scene. Duglas T. Stewart has been the mainstay of this band that has featured members of The Teenage Fanclub and The Vaselines. Their sound is as much west coast Americana as it is west Scotland. Their songs are full of heartbreak and humour mixed with a laid back guitar sound that amongst many others attracted the attention of Kurt Cobain who was famously photographed wearing their T-shirts and claiming that they were the only other band he would like to be in. Life Goes On features the great singles Serious Drugs , Little Hands and Kylies Got A Crush On Us . This edition contains and extra disk with all the b-sides from those singles, sleeve notes by Duglas and images dug out from his loft. |

The Brilliant
Corners were well brilliant!
They hovered on
the edge of a breakthrough for much of the late 80 s and early 90 s. Somebody
Up There Likes Me and Joyride both mark another maturing in The Brilliant
Corners sound.
These recordings
feature catchy tunes and Davey’s observational lyrics, it is a great place to
start realising the genius of The Brilliant Corners or just simply remind
yourself

Cherlokalate |
| |
|
Effervescent songbird Jane Weaver once again takes flight this Spring with this spellbinding collection of heartrending recordings. Having spent that past year residing under an apple tree on the outer limits of Greater Manchester putting the finishing touches to her new album immersed in the sounds of Linda Perhacs, Karen Dalton, Josephine Foster, These Trails and The Pink Fairies, the past few months have seen Jane travel over hill and over dale by special request to make a handful of rare live appearances across the UK and US alongside the likes of Voice Of The Seven Woods, Gruff Rhys (Super Furry Animals), Wendy Flower (Wendy & Bonnie), and most recently Josephine Foster.
Jane Weaver is a rare creature in the vanity-stricken world of female singers, and perhaps with a more generous roll of the dice we might all have heard of her. Serving her apprenticeship in the mid-nineties girl-guitar-pop outfit Kill Laura, Jane would go on to front Twisted Nerve's Misty Dixon and release her critically acclaimed solo mini-album, 'Like An Aspen Leaf', as well as recording a slew of singles with the help of Doves and an album for Mancunian music maverick Rob Gretton's Manchester Records which went unreleased following his death until Jane dusted down the tapes and released it through her very own Bird imprint.
'Cherlokalate' is the highly anticipated follow up to last years critically acclaimed debut album proper, 'Seven Day Smile' (2EGGS). Stripped back and laid bare, Jane's songwriting has moved from strength to strength and her dulcet tones have lost none of their potency. Jane's quiet riot continues unabashed as word spreads of her unassuming but bewitching talent. |
