The
Five Star story began in 1983 when the children of reggae musician Buster
Pearson decided to form their own pop group. Under their father's watchful
managerial eye, they signed to his own label Tent Records. Their debut album
"Luxury Of Life" was released in August 1985 and peaked at #12 in the
album charts. Their second album, the #1 hit "Silk & Steel"
followed in August 1986 and became triple platinum. In the 1980s the band
recorded 21 hit singles, 11 of them top 20, and 4 original albums followed by a
Greatest Hits album in 1989. The band, likened predictably to the Jackson 5 were
one of the leading UK pop acts of the decade.

La Toya Jackson |
| |
|
When you hear the name La Toya Jackson all sorts of thoughts spring to mind. Her nude appearances in Playboy, shopping with exotic snakes draped around her shoulders, tell-all books, psychic hotlines and all manner of bizarre stories reported in the tabloid newspapers of the late 1980s and early 90s. Scandal and intrigue have always surrounded La Toya, from her radical transformation from the Jackson's shy sister into a worldwide sex symbol, to her recent re-emergence as a key supporter of her brother Michael during his 2005 trial. The last thing that probably springs into most people's minds is her music. There's a lot more to Grammy Award winning La Toya than just her body-she has a lot of soul too. In this, her 1980 debut album, listen out for ‘Night Time Lover', produced by her brother Michael; the exquisite ‘My Love Has Passed You By', featuring Stevie Wonder on harmonica; ‘Are You Ready', written by Billy Ocean; and the lead single ‘If You Feel The Funk'. The first, ever British release of La Toya Jackson's self-titled album, over 25 years after it was first released in America and Europe in 1980. Including contributions from her brother Michael, sister Janet, Stevie Wonder and Billy Ocean, this is the first release from Cherry Red Records new imprint Cherry Pop, committed to rediscovering the best 80's pop albums and artists. |

Being |

Released on 22/02/10. ESOTERIC are pleased to continue their series of CD reissues of the catalogue of Finnish Progressive group WIGWAM with their classic 1974 album Being, the bands fourth LP. Formed in Helsinki in 1969, the band featured the talents of British Keyboard player and vocalist Jim Pembroke, Jukka Gustavson (keyboards, vocals), Pekka Pohjola (bass, violin, keyboards) and Ronnie Osterberg (drums). Released in Finland on the Love Records imprint, the album was a superb work which demonstrated the diversity of the band and the excellent musicianship of its members, but was to be the last album by this line-up.
The record that brought Wigwam to the attention of Virgin Records in the UK, Being also brought the band international acclaim. This newly re-mastered Esoteric Recordings reissue, in full co- operation with Love Records in Finland, fully restores the album artwork and marks the albums long overdue debut release in the UK |

Live Music from the Twilight Zone |
| |
|
Released 22/02/10. Esoteric are pleased to continue their series of CD reissues of the catalogue of Finnish Progressive group Wigwam with their classic 1975 double live album Live Music From The Twilight Zone.
Formed in Helsinki in 1969, the band featured the talents of British Keyboard player and vocalist Jim Pembroke, Jukka Gustavson (keyboards, vocals), Pekka Pohjola (bass, violin, keyboards) and Ronnie Osterberg (drums).
In late 1974, following the release of the album Being (also released by Esoteric this month), the band were augmented by the arrival of guitarist Pekka Rechardt. Soon after a series of concerts in Finland were recorded by Love Records to comprise Wigwam's first live album. The recordings demonstrated the diversity of the band and the excellent musicianship of its members. A particular stand out track was a fifteen minute version of Jim Pembroke's Grass for Blades, previously recorded under the pseudonym Hot Thumbs O'Reilly. Soon after these recordings both Gustavson and Pohjola departed, leaving this album as their final statement with Wigwam. |
