Esoteric Recordings are pleased to announce a new remastered edition of the classic 1972 album "A TEAR AND A SMILE” by TIR NA NOG. Formed in Dublin in 1969, the duo travelled to London to make a name for themselves on the UK folk circuit, earning a contract with Chrysalis Records in 1970. The duo became a fixture on the concert circuit, opening for acts such as The Who, Elton John and Procol Harum and were also championed by John Peel. "A TEAR AND A SMILE” was released to acclaim in 1972 and featured a host of original, haunting and emotive music.
This Esoteric Recordings reissue has been newly remastered from the original CHRYSALIS RECORDS master tapes and features two bonus tracks drawn from the band’s 1972 single and a booklet that fully restores all original album artwork with a new essay.

Swaddling Songs
Featuring girl singers Clodagh Simonds and Alison Williams, Mellow Candle never achieved commercial success they deserved spawning a legendary psychedelic folk-rock album akin to Fairport Convention or Fotheringay. Touring to support Thin Lizzy (Simonds played on Lizzy'salbum Shades of a Blue Orphanage ) and Horslips, the band had a short lived existence . Clodagh Simonds later went on to play again with Mike Oldfield and Jade Warrior and this release serves as evidence of the talents of both Simonds and the band who deserved far more commercial success than they attained. Now rightly regarded as a classic of the genre, Esoteric Recordings are proud to add Swaddling Songs to their catalogue.
