Everything - Bangles (The)

Everything
The Bangles combined the chiming riffs and melodies of British Invasion guitar pop with a hint of the new wave. In the process, they became one of the handful of all-female bands of the '80s to win both critical and commercial success.
The critical success came first - with their self-titled debut EP and full-length album,All Over the Place - and popular success arrived once they polished their sound, added some synthesizers, and deviated slightly from their trademark jangling guitar hooks. Once they were selling at the platinum level,The Bangles didn't stay together long, but they left several pop gems behind them.
"Everything” is one of those records; released in 1988 it contains the worldwide number one ‘Eternal Flame’ and the top five single ‘In Your Room’.
This re-issue also contains rare B-Sides, some appearing for the first time on CD, The booklet is packed with lyrics and rare covers.

All Over The Place

Released on 20/09/10. All Over the Place was The Bangles' first full length album for Columbia Records. Released in 1984, the sound is lively and shows more Bangles collaboration. Although the album was not a commercial success, it gave them the chance to perform as an opening act for Cyndi Lauper and Huey Lewis And The News and brought the group to the attention of Prince, who would write Manic Monday , their first hit.

Two singles were released from this album, Hero Takes a Fall , which peaked outside the U.K. Top 40, and Going Down to Liverpool , written by Kimberley Rew of Katrina And The Waves, which won the Bangles the BPI Award, the British equivalent of the Grammy. The video for Going Down To Liverpool features Leonard Nimoy, who plays the part of the band's chauffeur.

Different Light
Different Light is an album by The Bangles released in January 1986. It is their best known album, with a Top 5 hit single and a No. 1 hit. The album s Top 40 sound was a departure from their earlier 60s style sound. This was the first album in which bassist Michael Steele sings lead vocals on some tracks.

Three of five singles were written by someone other than the Bangles: Manic Monday (written by Prince under the pseudonym Christopher), If She Knew What
She Wants and Walk Like An Egyptian . The other two singles were Following and Walking Down Your Street .

This reissue contains a whole bonus disc of rare b-sides some appearing for the first time on CD and the booklet is packed with rare covers and a note by Mojo’s Daryl Easlea.

La Toya Jackson
When you hear the name La Toya Jackson all sorts of thoughts spring to mind. Her nude appearances in Playboy, shopping with exotic snakes draped around her shoulders, tell-all books, psychic hotlines and all manner of bizarre stories reported in the tabloid newspapers of the late 1980s and early 90s. Scandal and intrigue have always surrounded La Toya, from her radical transformation from the Jackson's shy sister into a worldwide sex symbol, to her recent re-emergence as a key supporter of her brother Michael during his 2005 trial. The last thing that probably springs into most people's minds is her music. There's a lot more to Grammy Award winning La Toya than just her body-she has a lot of soul too. In this, her 1980 debut album, listen out for ‘Night Time Lover', produced by her brother Michael; the exquisite ‘My Love Has Passed You By', featuring Stevie Wonder on harmonica; ‘Are You Ready', written by Billy Ocean; and the lead single ‘If You Feel The Funk'. The first, ever British release of La Toya Jackson's self-titled album, over 25 years after it was first released in America and Europe in 1980. Including contributions from her brother Michael, sister Janet, Stevie Wonder and Billy Ocean, this is the first release from Cherry Red Records new imprint Cherry Pop, committed to rediscovering the best 80's pop albums and artists. PWL - From The Factory Floor (Expanded Edition)
To the modern pop world, Stock, Aitken and Waterman have taken on something of a legendary status in recent years. The PWL label and studios produced so many hits in the 1980s that their name became synonymous with success, and they created the template so expertly worked today by their protégée Simon Cowell today is undeniable. From Elton John’s tea boy to successful record producer, Phil Harding’s career spans over 30 years, ranging from recording The Clash in the 70s to producing hit singles for East 17 and Boyzone in the 90s. Phil played a key role at PWL Studios, Pete Waterman’s vision for a ‘British Motown’, alongside the legendary Stock, Aitken and Waterman production team, whose Hit Factory productions and mixes sold over 30 million units around the world, via a surprisingly diverse CV of artists, including ABC, RICK ASTLEY, BANANARAMA, BAND AID II, BASIA, CHIC, CLIMIE FISHER, THE COOL NOTES, DEAD OR ALIVE, HAZELL DEAN, DEPECHE MODE, DIVINE, DOLLAR, JASON DONOVAN, EIGHTH WONDER, ERASURE, FIVE STAR, THE FOUR TOPS, LONNIE GORDON, DEBBIE HARRY, THELMA HOUSTON, IMAGINATION, THE JACKSON FIVE, JESUS JONES, MATT BIANCO, MEL & KIM, KYLIE MINOGUE, GARY MOORE, NITZER EBB, PET SHOP BOYS, PRINCESS, CLIFF RICHARD, DIANA ROSS, SINITTA, JIMMY SOMERVILLE, SONIA, JERMAINE STEWART, DONNA SUMMER, THE THREE DEGREES, T'PAU, JOHN TRAVOLTA & OLIVIA NEWTON-JOHN and VOICE OF THE BEEHIVE. Refreshingly and affectionately frank, ‘PWL - From The Factory Floor’ tells the inside story of one of the most successful and fast-paced music studios of all time. Phil’s pivotal role provides a uniquely broad perspective, extending from the top of the organisation, mixing many classic SAW hits, down to the bottom , training up-and-coming engineers, as well as involvement in the creative, business (and diplomatic!) aspects of being a critically-acclaimed producer in his own right and developing a profile and client base under the management of Pete Waterman. After a sold-out limited release in 2009, the book has undergone extensive development into this Expanded Edition, and contains a wealth of new material. Highlights include Phil’s behind-the-scenes journey through the eventful rise (and fall) of PWL, commentary on the working styles and sounds covered during PWL’s history, detailed recollections of specific, classic PWL mixes, in-depth interviews on working with some of the most significant artists of the time, a comprehensive guide to the south London studio building and its evolution, an A-to-Z of PWL staff, a fascinating day in the life photo tour from recently rediscovered home video footage, Phil’s PWL discography - a comprehensive guide to his many hundreds of releases, and a full review of Phil and his fellow producer Ian Curnow’s extensive personal archives and master tapes (including, for the first time, details on many PWL projects that remain unreleased and previously forgotten), and a new Harding/Curnow interview, looking back on their time working at PWL . The book also takes in the technicalities of studio work, including a detailed case study of the mixing of a No. 1 single in the form of Kylie’s Hand On Your Heart, and information on the cutting edge technology and techniques used in making the studio a world leader. This, along with the inclusion of many previously-unseen photographs, makes ‘PWL From The Factory Floor - Expanded Edition’ a must-read for 80s, club, dance and pop devotees, contemporary music followers, studio technicians and creators and those with any interest in the extreme highs and lows that only pop music can provide. Phil is still an in-demand writer, producer, mix engineer, guest speaker and lecturer. He speaks and lectures at Universities and Colleges around the UK, recently with Pete Waterman, and is currently Vice-Chairman of the Music Producers Guild and Chairman (MPG) of the Joint Audio and Media Education Service (JAMES). He is regularly featured and interviewed in music production magazines and websites and is remembered fondly by just about everybody who has worked with him. A rarity indeed in his business!

A double-CD package, 'PHIL HARDING CLUB MIXES OF THE 80s' of 25 digitally-remastered classic 80s remixes and rarities is now being released as a companion to the book - featuring ABC | DIANA ROSS | HOLLY JOHNSON | RICK ASTLEY | BLOW MONKEYS | DEAD OR ALIVE | EIGHTH WONDER & THE PET SHOP BOYS | IMAGINATION | THE FOUR TOPS | FIVE STAR | MICHAEL JACKSON WITH THE JACKSON 5 | GODLEY & CREME | BASIA (of MATT BIANCO) | JIMMY RUFFIN and more (Cherry Pop label - Cat No: CRPOPD100) <<

Lovely 2CD 25th Anniversary Edition
Back in the mid-80s, The Primitives combined the fuzz guitars of The Jesus & Mary Chain with the pop sensibilities of Blondie and a nod to cult heroes The Velvet Underground. They swiftly rose from being a popular Indie guitar outfit to charting worldwide with ‘Crash’, kickstarting a craze in bands fronted by blonde female singers (Transvision Vamp, The Darling Buds et al).
Lovely was The Primitives’ debut album. Issued in April 1988 on the back of the success of ‘Crash’, it peaked at No. 6 in the UK, staying on the charts for ten weeks, and yet is unavailable on CD.
The Primitives’ profile has not been as high since their heyday, what with the release of a brand new studio album Echoes And Rhymes last year and Cherry Red’s 2-CD compilation of the band’s pre-RCA recordings, Everything’s Shining Bright, which surfaced in March.
This 25th anniversary 2-CD set boasts most of the band’s B-sides and other rare tracks from that successful year, as well as including those hit singles in full:
Crash (February 1988) No.5
Out Of Reach (April 1988) No.25
Way Behind Me (September 1988) No.36
Compiled with the help of guitarist PJ Court, this 2-CD compilation boasts re-mastered music as well as a splendid, annotated booklet boasting rare photos and personal memories from the band.
