360 Degrees Of Billy Paul - Billy Paul

360 Degrees Of Billy Paul
2012 marks the 40th anniversary of the hugely influential Philadelphia International Records. To mark this, and following our reissue of some of the labels other acts such as the Three Degrees, Harold Melvin & The Blue Notes and the O’Jays. We are pleased to present another album from one of the most identifiable voices of the Philly Sound.

Billy Paul is a Grammy Award winning soul singer, most noted for his R&B and Pop #1 ME AND MRS. JONES from this 1972 album 360 DEGREES OF BILLY PAUL.

360 DEGREES OF BILLY PAUL has proved to be prime material for producers looking for great samples. It has been used by the likes of Wu-Tang Clan, Cypress Hill, M.O.P., Last Emperor, Scarface and The Game.

AM I BLACK ENOUGH FOR YOU was the second single release and peaked at #29 in the R&B charts. It has gone on to become a key song in the Philadelphia International catalogue.

Released in deluxe Super Jewel cases, with bonus tracks, 360 DEGREES OF BILLY PAUL is a must for all Soul and Funk fans out there!

Press:-

"This 1972 set is the first Billy Paul album that most people heard, it being the one that produced Me & Mrs Jones as lead single. It's amongst his best too, for it also includes the superb mid-tempo Philly roller Brown Baby, a tribute the kids who took part in the civil rights marches, the eight-minute epic I'm Just A Prioner,a Gamble-Sigler-Hurtt song that Billy confesses reminded him of a stretch behind bars his step-dad did, and the funky follow-up to Mrs Jones, Am I Black Enough For You?". 3/5* Chris Wells (Echoes - September 2012)

"Now digitally remastered for simultaneous release on BIG BREAK RECORDS, two albums recorded by Billy Paul are enjoyable but very different." - Alan Jones, Music Week

Formed in 1967 in their hometown of Tulsa, Oklahoma, brothers Charlie, Ronnie and Robert Wilson first went by the name Greenwood, Archer and Pine Street Band later shortening the name to THE GAP BAND in 1973. LA Producer, Lonnie Simmons, signed them to his label, Total Experience Records, setting in motion what would be the start of a long and prosperous relationship between THE GAP BAND and Simmons.

Notable hits include their top ten hit Shake, the breakthrough single from The Gap Band II, I Don't Believe You Want To Get Up And Dance (Oops!) and the number one R&B hit Early In The Morning taken from their 1982 #1 R&B album The Gap Band IV. 1985 brought the release of THE GAP BAND VI and with it the band soared back to the top of the R&B album chart with the chosen singles also enjoying impressive chart positions. The first single BEEP A FREAK, peaked at #2 R&B, their highest chart spot since Outstanding took the top spot on the R&B charts in 1982.
